Tuning to capo 3

Unread post by guitardmb » Sun Jul 09, 2006 7:34 am

Since I use capo 3 so much I was going to tune one of my guitars to it. What comination of strings should I use to tune it there. I have tried just the regular strings since its only three half steps higher but some of the strings broke.

Why not just use the capo?

Honestly, I dont know how that would work or if it would work.
Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?

That's silly. It won't work anyway.

So yeah, don't do it.

Its really no more sillier than tuning to raised b, its just more convenient to just pick it up and play. Even though the capo only takes two seconds to put on. Alright well thanks anyway.

I guess you COULD just use slightly heavier strings, shift them all down, tune them appropriately, and where the high e string used to go, use a lighter gauage high e, and tune it appropriately. It would just be a lot of unneccessary stress on one string combined with less stress on 5 strings.

it is sillier because capoing the 7th fret makes it hard to fit your fingers in there. Therefore having a raised b tuned guitar makes sense. Capo 3 is not hard to play and takes two seconds to do with a capo, as you stated.

Yeah, it would be a bitch to keep that thing in tune and would probably sound weird since those strings are meant to be kept at a certain tension.

You could tune a half step higher (or perhaps a step) and place the capo on fret 1 or 2 (depending on the highness you achieved).
