Dave's Ear Piece
Hey guys, this is probably a stupid question.. but what is that ear piece Dave always wears for? Is it so that Carter can talk to him and tell him when what to do and when to start solos?
and all the little ants are marching..

The In Ear Monitors are used for two things:
Primarily, they are used so they can hear the rest of the band. Each band member has their own mix in their ear monitor. For example, Dave probably has his voice louder so he can hear if he's hitting the notes and whatnot, and probably a lot of drums so he can keep time, while Boyd probably has more violin and drums in his monitor, etc. Most smaller bands and performers use stage monitors, which are the big speakers on the floor in front of them pointed right at them, but IEM's are used by larger bands because you can really block out all other sound since they're right in your ear. They're a buttload more expensive, though.
The other use they have is to talk to each other on stage without talking into the microphones that go out over the main speakers.

If I remember correctly, I think Dave had a mic on his shirt at the Hershey show, so that might be what that was for. Or I could have just been imagining it.little ants734 wrote:ok I understand now.. how do they talk back and forth if there isnt a mic around.. i mean i know carter has a microphone by his drums but how does everyone else communicate? Is there a mic on their shirt?

I thought it was more than a month ago...I was hoping a TR'er would remember it.
