Alright, I know I just got a Taylor, but I also want to get an electric. Actually, I'm considering getting rid of my 614 (maybe.......but probably not) who knows. I was checkin' out Fender's and was thinking about going with a standard strat in brown sunburst/ tobacco burst or whatever. I'll probably be playin' Eric Johnson and John Sykes stuff. Also a little bit of Mayer and a few other bands. Is it worth it for $400 bucks? Thanks

yea strats are solid guitars.. If you get one made in mexico the pickups are going to suck, but besides that they are real nice...

one reason why everyone has one is because they are such great guitars.
But the lower end ones are really terrible. I would suggest either buying a 400 dollar one and replacing the pickups and what not, or going with the American or American Deluxe. I just got a Am. Del. and I absolutely LOVE IT!!!!

Yes, ultimately the biggest difference between a American and Mexican are the pickups. So just spend an extra hundred or so and get some nice pickups and you have yourself the best 500 dollar guitar.

the necks on the Americans are have better fretjobs too. Those hand curled edges make a big difference in feel.
but it won't affect the sound at all, so a MIM strat with new pickups is a great guitar

As for pickups I would suggest getting either Texas Specials or the Noiseless pickups that are in the Am Del., or a mixture of the two.

Also the hardware on the mexican ones is pretty crappy. You'll probably need to replace the bridge. Besides that, they're quality guitars and VERY versatile. You'll be able to play a wide variety of genres of music with a strat. To me, that's the most important part.

The MIM Fenders just got a big upgrade to the quality (so i've read).
Better frets, better bridge. Just replace the pickups and you're all set.

I think I'm selling one of my acoustics too, to get a strat. I have two small body acoustics, so I figure I should try something new out.
