TIm Reynolds' Style

Unread post by castellar » Wed Apr 12, 2006 9:56 pm

just wondering if anyone would know what kind of style i would be looking into if i wanted to learn to play some of tims material. becuase i really dont find that any of his stuff is "easy"

when i was learning dave i started with some songs that were pretty easy, like jimi thing, and typical situation.
...but i cant really play ANY of tims songs, therefore i have been searching for videos that teach lead guitar and blues guitar and jazz guitar. but I really don't know which style i should be trying to focus on. So I was wondering if you guys had any recommendations on a specific style that would help me play tims songs.

thanks

I don't know if this is what your looking for...

http://www.timreynolds.com/tablature/

"Here are a few tips about Tim's style:
-Improv is a huge part of Tim's playing
-He usually doesn't use a pick on acoustic, except on his faster songs(Stream, Kundalini Bonfire)
-Tim sometimes uses alternate tunings, mostly drop D and drop C"

That's pretty close.

He has a lot of influences that come from playing a lot of different styles of music over many years. He has the improvisation of a jazz musician, the speed of metal guitarist, the crispness of a classical guitar player and the timing of some of the great rock guitarists.

crispness of a classical guitar player? i really dont see tim reynolds being nearly as clean as a good classical guitarist

it seems like a lot of people keep saying classical guitar is part of his style, perhaps im just defining classical guitar a little differently, but im not seeing it

he's very classical. listen to Rheginios and ressurection (sp) , the Wayfarer, and things like And Then they were Free and things like that... he has the profficiency of one-- and his finger techniques are classical indeed.

i've seen a video of And Then They Were Free, and I guarantee you that a classical guitarist will not put their right pinky on the top of the guitar like he does. that is the FIRST thing an instructor will tell you not to do.

dont confuse fingerstyle with classical, they aren't the same thing
