You're beautiful.....

Unread post by jellyfish » Fri Jan 13, 2006 11:39 pm

Ok guys, this is my first ever to be critiqued. Im not looking for guitar crituques on this song but rather vocals. And my question is... are they decent? I know I fucked up the chorus cause Im not sure how to incorporate high notes in my singing style.

It's only the first verse & first chorus... If you guys tell me this sucks I won't record this song any longer.. I was just looking to see If i have the ability or not.

Thanks in advance

EDIT: and this is bare bones...no echo, chorus, delay. Just me and an AKG mic.

This is just the verse 1. I added a little echo for the live effect.

I like your voice. I definatley like the sound of it. There is only one thing i dont think goes with your voice, which is the 'you're beautEEful' thing, but other than that i liked it.

Yeah, I know for sure I couldn't hit that. It falls very flat...but what fun is it to not see somebody fail. :)

Weird to hear this song without the high notes in the chorus. Unlike most covers that get better as they go along, I thought this one started out really strong and sort of faded; seemed as though you were struggling for breath towards the end. I think it also sounds a bit too imitative of Blunt's voice. Overall, though, I'm impressed. Would love to hear more.

Thanks Brian...

The chorus is really intimidating for me becuase it's really high, which obviously I can't do very well. I guess I naturally just shy away from it and lower my voice becasue I know I cant do it. However, it was literally less than an hour worth of hearing the song, learning the simple guitar, learning the words/harmony, and singing it. [which is difficult for me]

And Brian, that is my voice. I wasn't trying to sing like him.

Thanks again.

Can someone record the Chorus so I can see how you guys do it?? [hit the higher notes]

For some reason it always helps to hear somebody else sing it rather than the main artist.

I think a huge factor of vocals is confidence. At least in practice. Just keep going after it and you might surprise yourself one day. It's like guitar. All the sudden one day you realize you can play something you weren't able to play last year, or even last week. It just happens. In my experience, the same thing happens with vocals. Just keep at it. Know your limitations, of course, but don't give up.
However, it was literally less than an hour worth of hearing the song, learning the simple guitar, learning the words/harmony, and singing it. [which is difficult for me]
I always do this, too. I hear a song, enjoy it, think "hey, I bet I can play this," learn it, record it, and a week later I realize I can play it so much better than the recording which I shared with so many people. Bad habit.
And Brian, that is my voice. I wasn't trying to sing like him.
My mistake then. In that case, I think you have a similar voice. All in all enjoyable and I look forward to hearing more.

Haha, girlfriend is sleeping and I haven't learned the song. Might be something worth learning in the future, though, even though I think the lyrics are terribly, terribly weak.

I only know the first verse and chorus.... I have no clue what lies beyond that as far as lyrics are concerned. I didn't think they were that bad so far.

If you want bad/cliched lyrics, listen to any modern day punk band... Those are some weak lyrics. :)
