Help Needed Soon, Live Recording

Unread post by sunglassesatnight » Fri Dec 16, 2005 10:57 am

Alright so there's a local rap group that is putting on a show in my hometown and they want me to record it for possible release.

I'd planned on just running a SBD feed into my computer (Audiophile 24/96), but then I realized that rap has a lot of emphasis on crowd interaction, so I figured I'd run a mic (or two) as well. Then I would mix that down to one track with a nice clean feed and a good feed with crowd noise.

Problem is, I can't seem to separate the channels when messing around with this. I certainly wouldn't want to record a mono feed from the board, and because of that, I have it recording in stereo, panned center.

Since it is recording both channels, I can't use anything else on either channel, or the signals get mixed and I end up with what would be the mic in with the board feed, etc.

If anyone knows what to do or has a suggestion as to how I record tracks separatlely from one another, please let me know. I am at my wit's end.

Thanks all.

If I recall the 24/96 is only capable of recording 2 tracks at once or one stereo (panned left/right). You may be better off with a mixer. Both mics to the mixer and then out of the insert to comp. Either way you can only have one stereo track with that soundcard.

I should have mentioned that I have a mixer earlier. I tested this today and found that all I can do, even when running a stereo track and two mono tracks (mics) panned left and right I still get that overlap.

Since I can only run a stereo or two mono tracks with the 24/96, do I need to find some other way to get an input, either for the board or the mics?
