Question for all you 12-string people

Unread post by clayek » Wed Nov 09, 2005 2:31 am

I have an early 70s 12-string that I just recently discovered is bad-ass with the bottleneck. I don't know why I haven't tried it before; I guess that I usually had my hands (fingers) full enough just playing the darn thing. I keep this guitar tuned to D instead of E and play it with a capo on the 2nd fret to reduce the stress on the neck (the guitar is starting to buckle from age unfortunately). However, with the slide it actually sounds better w/out the capo. So after all of this, my question is this: are there any open tunings that would be possible to tune this guitar to that would still be at a lower tension? I am trying to avoid the capo as it lowers the action a little which I don't want for the slide. Anyone know of any good sites for alternate 12-string tunings? I don't even know where to start with this topic myself. Its gonna be a bitch trying out the different ones as it takes forever to tune this beast. Thanks for any help

Thats a good question, it might be fun to experiment on my 12ver in a lower tuning...I'm going to look into that myself
