dont try to sing like dave.-- you dont have his voice, hence-- impossible-- like a fingerprint.
you can sing his stuff and take from it the useful techniques such as falsetto, scatting, wails...
but other than that be your own man! If you can sing well, then keep at it and you'll proably sound better than him--
because 50% of people who hear dave matthews band say, "I like the music, but his voice is SO aggravating!"

Don't try and sing like Dave. It's cool sometimes if you try to convey how he sounds on a cover I suppose, but find your own voice.dmbfan101 wrote:oh really? well i can sing the falsettos..and the scatts...nd i can match his wails...i thought in ordr to b good at singing, u have to sound like the person u want to immatate....i personally think im ok..wen i first started i sucked...butnow, i think im alright..plus, playing guitar and singing at the sametime takes talent as well doesnt it? especially if it is playing dave songs like the stone, rhyme and reason..nd warehouse

I've noticed his tone and approach HAS changed over the years, but if you take into account his early influences, i.e. Marley, Gabriel, Sting you can get a gauge of what might have been going through his mind.
His tone and style is his own. 9 out of 10 I'd say that people that DON'T take a shine to DMB don't do so because of Dave's voice.

"The band is super talented, I respect the hell out of them musically, but I can't get into Dave's voice at all"

I will ask for you. She doesn't listen to a whole lot of modern music besides DMB. I pretty much brain washed her and she has accepted the fact that if she is with me, she will listen to a lot of DMB and she will like it. She doesn't say all negative about him. Says he sings with a lot passion. That would be one thing you would want to emulate.dmbfan101 wrote:which artists sing correctly? can u ask ur gf?

Brandon Boyd has one of the greatest voices, if not the greatest in my opinion. Hopefully there are no opera elitists here or anything...Trippin Hillbilly wrote:Jeff Buckley, Thom Yorke, Brandon Boyd, Adam Duritz.....mlb1399 wrote:I will ask for you.
