Newly discovered problem
so i was recording my original for the contest and i kept hearing this tapping in the background. i picked up my guitar and played the song over to try to find out where it was coming from and then i saw it. my pick was hitting my pickguard. i guess that's what the thing is there for but i'm hitting it so hard that the noise is easily heard in the music. i never thought about it before but i played another song and when i listened, sure enough, same thing.
the more i try to not hit the pickguard the worse the playing sounds. what should i do?

don't let other people play your guitar, even if they've been playing longer than you. I let this kid who I know has been playing for like 5 years and i had a lot more scratches on my pick guard when i held it to the light then before. I rarely hit it unless I get like really into a jam or something.

I had this problem once too. It's kind of hard to explain without pictures, but I'll try. When you're holding your pick, make sure you're not holding it too far away from your palm. Your stroke (yeah haha) should be very similar to as if you were going to do a palm mute, just with your hand far enough away from the string so you don't mute. Make sense? If it doesn't, I'll take some pictures of my picking hand for you.
