ISO: Answers for basic recording at my house.

Unread post by Sugar Will » Sat Aug 20, 2005 9:15 pm

Alright so....My computer is in the corner of our rather large family room after our addition was put on the house. I'm only going to record late at night when everyone's asleep. I DON'T have the $$$ to buy expensive mic's and/or mixers.

All I want is to be able to record music! Plain and simple. So I went to my local Sam Ash last week and a guy showed me a brand new mic on the market made by Samson. It's a USB microphone that just goes into the usb port in front of my PC and supposely I'm good to go, I need nothing more. It's 80 bucks. I know how to edit, noise reductions, normalizing, etc. because we use Cool Edit at my buddies house.

Q: So what needs to be set on my volume controls in order to pick up this usb mic?

-Thanks everyone, don't rip on me too much.

I'm thinking about getting one of these, but I don't know if it would be better to go this route or buy a cheaper mic and a mixer and plug this into the back of my computer instead. Any suggestions?

why not just buy a $100 transportable mic. then you can use it for live playing too

wel you cant do much with a tight budget, but

it depends if you have any other need for a dynamic mic, or any other need for a condenser mic

if you do, i wouldnt get a usb mic

well that samson is 80 bucks

if you got any other mic, the cheapest i would go would be about 80 bucks, then you need cables, and a mic pre, adding more money... but if you went that route, you could use it for live playing
