your thumb covers the bottom strings!?smedley wrote:for me it's pretty much my index finger covering all the strings when i'm doing the "rising" part (7 to 9 to 11), then when I'm coming back down i rest my index over the top strings while my thumb covers the bottom ones. it's kinda hard to explain.

that just doesn't make any sense to me..if you could, please post some sort of picture showing how you do that..it doesn't seem practical at all to use your thumb to mute the bottom stringssmedley wrote:yeah, i do have quite long fingers/thumb, hahaDMBFan63 wrote:your thumb covers the bottom strings!?smedley wrote:for me it's pretty much my index finger covering all the strings when i'm doing the "rising" part (7 to 9 to 11), then when I'm coming back down i rest my index over the top strings while my thumb covers the bottom ones. it's kinda hard to explain.

They're the lower pitched strings, but not the bottom strings. I get what you mean nowsmedley wrote:we're talking about the E A D G strings, right? and sorry, i dont have any kind of camera to take a picture of.DMBFan63 wrote:that just doesn't make any sense to me..if you could, please post some sort of picture showing how you do that..it doesn't seem practical at all to use your thumb to mute the bottom stringssmedley wrote:yeah, i do have quite long fingers/thumb, hahaDMBFan63 wrote:your thumb covers the bottom strings!?smedley wrote:for me it's pretty much my index finger covering all the strings when i'm doing the "rising" part (7 to 9 to 11), then when I'm coming back down i rest my index over the top strings while my thumb covers the bottom ones. it's kinda hard to explain.

i dont play it the same way as on the site but it sounds good. i dont strum i play each string on its own. 7 down up 9 down up 11 down up etc. the key to make it sound right is speed. i know that that might not help if you want to play the way it is on the site but either way one of the keys is speed

I hear that, but that purcussive muting gives Warehouse it's personality.STLflmmkr wrote:i dont play it the same way as on the site but it sounds good. i dont strum i play each string on its own. 7 down up 9 down up 11 down up etc. the key to make it sound right is speed. i know that that might not help if you want to play the way it is on the site but either way one of the keys is speed
Relentless practice is how you get those mutes. Start S-L-O-W-L-Y. Set the chord up and strum each chord individually until it sounds right. Now strum that same chord, that same way, fifty times. Then move on to the next. Then put them together. Rinse, repeat.
