Search Problem
Anyone else have a problem when trying to search? Everything else on the boards loads super fast, but when I try to search the boards, it ends up sitting there still for ever then finally searching, if it ever goes through at all.

Re: Search Problem
Could you post what search terms you're using that cause this? Things that slow down searches could be things like using a term that appears in a ton of posts (like "DMB", as an example), or if you're searching with too many terms (i tend to max myself at 3. more will work, but it will be slower). specifying the author of the post also speeds things up quite a bit if you know it.jsgksu wrote:Anyone else have a problem when trying to search? edit: and in the next version of phpBB, search will be much faster because it will take advantage of MySQL's fulltext indexing. (what that means in english - it will be faster)

I was actually searching for hella so I could see how many times teego said it in his Justin King thread (because the search bolds the word) But I just tried searching for it and it worked pretty quickly. I dont know if the problem is my computer, my internet, firefox (I doubt it but problems I never had seem to happen ever since I made the change) but they just seem to happen off and on. I dont know the problem, but it seems to be working quickly now anyway.

You could go to his post, press ctrl+f, type in "hella", and count them. It might save you time.jsgksu wrote:I was actually searching for hella so I could see how many times teego said it in his Justin King thread (because the search bolds the word) But I just tried searching for it and it worked pretty quickly. Yeah, I know, but I wanted them to be bolded because I posted the link for it afterwards with the bold words. Thats besides the point though, this problem occurs when simply searching within a thread wouldnt help.Coldchillin23222 wrote:You could go to his post, press ctrl+f, type in "hella", and count them. I need to know what your search terms and options are before I can do anything. Also don't forget that every time you search, it's poring through 1.1 gigs of data - that isn't a speedy process no matter which way you slice it.jsgksu wrote:still a constant issue, Ive been trying to search for a phrase for like five minutes, it just keeps saying searching. I reload, hit search again, hit it numerous time, hit reload, hit it again, let it sit, everything, the page goes nowhere. Pretty frustrating.

I was searching for "black thing daves guitar" to help someone know what the feedback buster was. I also had, search for all terms checked. The boards were being ridiculously slow for evreyone at that point in time though, so it probably just made the search function lag that much more.bbatsell wrote:I need to know what your search terms and options are before I can do anything. When was this? That day that the boards were slow for about 2 hours with the datacenter problems? Or like yesterday? I'm not aware of any slowdowns other than that.jsgksu wrote:I was searching for "black thing daves guitar" to help someone know what the feedback buster was. I also had, search for all terms checked. With regard to the searching, I just ran that query and had results within 3 or 4 seconds. That's longer than I'd like, but not too bad. Note that using words like "Dave" or "guitar" will slow down your search significantly - "dave" and "guitar" are mentioned in probably 60% of the quotes on the site. (Hell, I have searching for "DMB" blocked.) Sometimes they're necessary, and that's fine, but it won't be very fast.

It was yesterday, it was only for like 20 minutes, check the RPT, a bunch of people mentioned experiencing the slowness also. I just ran this test again, it took about 8 seconds. Thats kinda long, but at least it went through this time. I seem to be the only one complaining about it, so maybe its a problem on my end anyway.bbatsell wrote:When was this?
