Stand Up - the next Everyday?
Stand Up - the next Everyday?
American Baby sounded very produced and artificial (not much of Dave's acoustic featured). Sugar Will is an awesome song, but it has more of an everyday-album kind of flavor to it. Joy ride is awesome, Hello again is not.
don't get me wrong, I like everyday. but, it was kind of a different direction for the band, even compared to busted stuff. think we'll see more busted stuff style, or more everyday-ness on this new album?

And I don't think every album was a new direction for the band. Everyday is the only real shift they've ever pulled.
Stay with me, safe and ignorant.

everybody in the band said they moved in a different direction w/ this new album, from the sound to the producing...is it bad? not at all! after 15 of playing, u need to find new ways and sounds, or u could get bored..."too produced"??
it is a studio album! if u need a "less produced" sound, buy a live concert
personally, i think the clips were good...BTW not all of them, but i always need to listen well at all of dave's songs before they start growing on me...i'm looking forward to the release date sooo badly

I have not listened to any of the new tracks from "Stand Up" other than American Baby, I'd much rather be suprised when I buy it. But personally, I don't think the band will ever sink to the "Everday" level again. I think that album was totally a fluke. The one that slipped by. Plus, Glen Ballard had more of a hand in writing tunes for "Everyday" than the new producer had for "Stand Up". So hopefully, what we'll be hearing in the new album is Dave, and not Marc Broussard (sp?). But I'm keeping my fingers-crossed. I've heard only good things thus far.

Re: Stand Up - the next Everyday?
I disagree with Hello Again. That was by far my favorite new song from last summer. It had that old DMB sound to it, full of energy, a blue grass/twangy sound, and familiar Dave type rhythms.Buck23 wrote:American Baby sounded very produced and artificial (not much of Dave's acoustic featured). As far as the album goes, It's tough to say. At first I and everybody hated everyday. But a lot of songs have grown on me such as:what you are, So Right, Fool to Think, When the world ends, everyday. I think given time, it will probably grow on me.
As a creative and artistic band, I expect them to try different things and to grow. Doing the same thing over and over again gets boring. It's a lot easier to the same old routine thing over and over again then it is to try something new and change. As DMB fans, I expect a lot of us to be more open minded than other bands fans. After all, we appreciate creative jams and different interpretations of familar songs to show their creativity.
So much pop music is comprised of repetitive stuff that I don' understand how their fans don't get bored. Bands like Nickelback, Creed which any song you play virtually sounds the same. Then you look at some of the cheesy bands of the 80's that stuck with boring power chords or I-IV-V-I chord progressions.
I think of bands like Led Zeppelin, that tried and experimented with all sorts of different sounds and rhythyms(blue grass, hard rock, middle eastern, rhythm & blues, etc.) I am sure a lot of their fans maybe didn't like some of their tunes right away. I think the fact that they tried new things and made them work is one of the reasons why they are the greatest band ever, IMO.
