i got this guitar about a year ago and really love it, but whenever my friends play it they seem to strum to hard and it makes it sound like a cheap guitar. i love the way it sounds, maybe i'm just used to it. anybody have any thoughts/comments on the DX-1?

Welcome to the boards with your first post. As for my thoughts:
This is a "cheap" guitar in terms of what Martin normally puts out. It is the least expensive guitar they have and probably can be found for $450. One thing that makes it sound bad when being played hard would have to be that it is not completely made of solid wood. Only the top is solid wood with the sides and back being laminated. I am sure it sounds decent but without solid wood all around it may sound a bit worse when played hard. I am not saying your guitar is a piece of shit by any means but I know Martin put this guitar out soley to compete with lower end guitars.
