Okay.. i have to learn this jazz song.. and ican read music fine except im not too sure what the symbol that looks like a slanted division sign is...
its like a DOT / DOT and its above the measure.. and is the rythm for the chords.. or the comping? (?)
Im just wondering what the value is of each. There is ONE above each measure and the whole thing is in 4/4 timing.
help would be nice.

it means repeat the previous measure
say there is a measure of a riff, and then 3 of those symbols over the next 3 blank measures, then you would play that riff 4 times; once for the written out measure, and once for each of those symbols
i cant remember what those symblos are called, but im 100 percent sure that it means to repeat the prev measure

ya, that makes sense. except in the first measure... it just says the chord name (D-7) so.. i dunno. maybe they assume we know the pace lol. Its Coltrane- Impressions.
Its the melody and practicing improvization in D Dorian thats the main focus of this..the chord part ill just ask my teacher on tuesday. thanks tho!

is it a music school or private-guy giving lessons?
just remember to give your teacher a good idea of what direction you are going in. tell him your not just a guy who wants to learn songs.. you want to learn the theory and such. (if thats your direction)
thats mine. i can do the fun stuff on my own, the teacher is the guide so i can learn theory and get better at improv...

It's a private guy. And yeah, I plan on doing all that stuff.

Yeah, that really does make me excited knowing how much they say you improve. I really can't wait.
