I can't tell yah really..I play medium gauge and my strings never buzz unless I tune to a really low tuning..Maybe it wasn't set up properly and that's the reason for them buzzing..dunno what else to tell yah

I really dig the tone on mediums, but that's just me. You should be able to take the guitar back to your dealer and have them adjust it free so it won't buzz with lights though. Depends on what you want to do.

here i can tell you.
when i got my 914 i put lights on and it buzzed i took it to the store and said listen i can't deal with this he looked at the neck and said it's fine put on mediums so i did it's it is better...any guitar will have a little buzz at around the second fret and the 10 and 12th depending how hard you play.

but the mediums should take care of most of it. best of luck.

EDIT:
the reason why they tell you to put lights on is because martin is bass ridden. but it will sound good either way.

yeah i think i'm just gonna go run to the store and buy some mediums - i realized all the buzzing is coming from the bridge, and everytime i played palm muted it sounds normal, mediums here i come

if you have mediums on it will decrease the buzzing because the thicker strings need more tension on them to get to the same pitch as the lights and that tension will pull the neck up ever so slightly, causing less buzz.
