Explain to me what is wrong with lower-end taylors
The ones under 1000. I mean, I played them, and they felt great to me, but they are constantly getting ragged on here. Sure I could spend the same amount of money and get electronics and a crappy sound, but if I really wanted electronics I could drop in a pickup. I've also heard bad things about the ES system. What if I want a Taylor without the ES? The 214 is all solid wood, no laminate, and felt fine to me. They had fast necks, low action, and felt pretty solid, as opposed to some lower end ibanez, takamine, etc which just felt cheap in my hands. So, what's the rhyme and reason for the low end taylor bashing, clearly i'm missing something.

Word! i support you 100% percent. Most people just assume that if you buy a martin or taylor under a 1000, you buy it for the brand. But then, what kind of a dumbass player would buy a guitar because of the freaken brand. Guitar is judged on its sound. Its just really weird how people think. and i think they just dont like the fact that martin and taylor are bought cheap and still produce good sound. Well, i dont think martin and taylor will lose their values by making lowering end models.i like tictacs wrote:The ones under 1000. If you like them then there really isn't anything wrong them. It's all subjective and personal when it comes to guitars and what you like about them. I hate to say it but if Dave got up on stage with a 110 then people here would be raving about how great their 110's are.
As far as getting a better instrument from another company for the same price, I think it's even more so the case with the high end Taylors. The price of a 914ce is starting to put you in the price range of many boutique makers.
It's true you can get a Breedlove for the same (or less) than the price of a 214 or 314, but it's an Atlas Series which is made in a factory in Asia. Don't get me wrong they are still great instruments but they aren't in the same league as the Breedlove handbuilts that are made in Oregon. As far as I know you cant get a new Santa Cruz for the price of a low end Taylor but you certainly could for the price of a 714 or 914.

I have never once considered getting a non-mainstream guitar for a few reasons. First, a big-brand company offers great warranty. In addition, Fender allows you to practically cutomize your guitar. But also, you are more likely to sell a popular brand guitar rather then a Alvarez. At least, it will get looked at more because of the name.

Now this is an objective reason, and while these issues haven't really been a factor for me when purchasing a guitar they are still good reasons.Beauford33 wrote:I have never once considered getting a non-mainstream guitar for a few reasons. I bash them constantly because for their feature set, and the way they feel and sound, they charge too much. They're actually pretty nice guitars, but it's my opinion that they should be a few hundred less than they are. That's my gripe. There really is no objective arguement for this...either you think the package is worth it or you don't.
In the end it's always "buy what you like."

Totally agreed here...I've played some guitars that people swear by that I just couldn't get into, but played much less expensive ones of the same brand and thought they outperformed them on all accounts.TrippnBill686 wrote:Everyone bashes D-15's, but my D-15 is hands-down the best guitar I've played under $1800, and I've played a good number.

well, I mysefl have never sold a guitar (except one to a friend, but I mean ads/ebay when I do the whole selling bit). Its just a good excuse when you reason your folks into letting you buy the guitarhcole wrote:Now this is an objective reason, and while these issues haven't really been a factor for me when purchasing a guitar they are still good reasons.Beauford33 wrote:I have never once considered getting a non-mainstream guitar for a few reasons.
