first recording post in a while

Unread post by Matty Boom » Tue Oct 26, 2004 10:33 am

miguel got on me a bit for not putting anything up, so i recording something small

it's 'cupid' by jack johnson

lyrics:

well how many times must we go through this
you've always been mine woman i thought you knew this
well how many times must we go through this
you'll always be mine cause cupid only misses sometimes

well we could end up broken hearted
if we don't remember why all this started
and if they try to tell you love fades with time
you tell them there's no such thing as time
it's our time...

i've been singing a lot trying to get my voice up to par, so i hope you guys will actually listen and give some feedback...so enjoy!

Definitely your best so far. Your singing has come a long way.

Well Done

Do you have a tab for that song...and are you still considering a Jack Johnson tab site?

reed's tab over at stanford is dead on for this song, so if you need a tab for it, check there

Now don't take this the wrong way, it's just a testament to how well you did.

I listened to it twice cause I wasn't sure if it was you. :)

You did great Matty, really coming along. I'm not a vocal coach and I blow at singing, so I'm afraid I can't really add much constructive critisicm...about the best I can comment on is being on key, and you were there. Good job pal.

I'm kinda speechless. You said you improved but damn, that's a hell of an improvement. Congrats Matty, you're on your way to having one killer voice if you keep this pace up.

i never got to listen to your other stuff, so i'll go w/ the improvement, cause it sounded great to me. the thing i would work on next would be the lower notes. i'm not much of a fan of the song itself cause i really don't like johnson that much, but you definetly nailed it. great job.

You can tell instantly that this is somone who's been working on their voice. It's a lot more powerful and present and I appreciate that you didn't hide it under the guitar.
You just need to work on breathing and supporting the voice better. Your definately singing from the diaphragm(sp?) but it's a tad inconsistant and kind of wavers at times. Keep in mind that singing requires very little air, loud or soft.
I think the song was hard in this regard though. I would love to hear something with more sustained notes to see if your having problems there.
This kind of improvement is really inpsiring.
I'm definately joining Miguel in making you post more.

I thought you did really well with this song and if this is as large an improvement as everyone has said it is I'd love to know what you're doing to get those kind of results.

stop posting recordings for a few months and just play play play, then post one...you'd be surprised at the results :)
