MK compared to D-28 and D-50

Unread post by Ranting Thespian » Sun Oct 03, 2004 4:13 am

Well, when I was at Good & Loud Music the other day (the day before I found out they had an Fishman Aura there), I saw they got a very slightly used D-28 that someone brought it. I was excited, and played it. It played like the other D-28s I had played, and loved it. I decided to compare it to the Guild D-50 that they had, and both had completley different sounds. The D-28 was very rythmic and bassy, the D-50 was very smooth and warm. Then, I came home and picked up my Michael Kelly Legend. I liked it more than the D-28 and the D-50! I thought, damn!

Has anyone ever gone to the guitar store to play a great high quality guitar that was great to play and feel, then go home and find your own lower end instrument more comfortable and pleasing to your ears and fingers? It felt really weird when I played my MK and loved it more.
Yes, I am in a box

Yep, i have yet to play a guitar that sounds better than my hd-35.
Although I admit I did play a 714c a couple of months ago that I thought sounded pretty amazing, close but not better.

i have said this before and i stand by it... my japanese made Penco A-160 (some unknown martin copy) sounds and plays better than any other acoustic ive played (and ive been to Martins factory to play all the gitars) It was in my uncles bassment because he got an D-28 that he liked more and he gave it to me because at that time in my life i was playin a ukelele sized 3/4 guitar with nylon strings. It played and sounded okay... then i had a revelation and changed the 20 year old strings DAMN...damn damn damn damn damn... it sounds incredible and has the lowest action ive seen on an acoustic, I'll try and post a mic'd recording, i just have a really crappy mic.
