busted stuff tuning

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

busted stuff tuning

Unread post by gravesRR7 » Sat Feb 15, 2003 10:24 pm

ok, i'm pretty pissed, i just broke my strings trying to tune them for this song. i don't know much about guitar stuff (i just play) , are you suppost to tune the A down to a G or up to a G, i tried up, but obviously you can't do that without breaking your strings. But now that i think about how the song sounds, i think its supposed to be down. any advice on tuning this song is NEEDED. please help! thank you

Tuning from A-->G is only one step down, while G-->A is six steps up. (I believe - grave, help me out here)

correct, you should tune the G DOWN to an A, definitely not up, the string can't take the tension and as shown, will snap.

You almost never want to tune up more than one whole step (besides, I don't think the guitar will let you). The only time I tune up is for open E tuning. The 3rd string goes up 1/2 step, 4th and 5th strings go up a whole step. Some songs in this tuning include "She talks to angels", "Little Martha", and intro to "Ice Cream Man".

there are other versions of busted stuff, in standard tuning none the less:

this saves you many strings by not having to retune, i like to keep my guitar in standard and i only tune it differently when i cant find any other tabs for it

i'm nitpicking, but i believe you mean A down to G. Here's how it should go:

E stays the same
B stays the same
G down to E
D down to B
A down to G
E stays the same
yep, im an idiot, hope no one was confused.
