id recommend a Traynor.. you can probably find a YCV40T for that much... all tube. Traynors are the best bang for the bucks out there.

a 15 watt tube amp is very loud. it will fill a room. But for like a club you might have to mike it. but i think the 15 watt tube is the best ever.
as for spider. i have a spider 1 and it is really versatile and pretty loud. but i'd call it a beginner amp. i'm gonna get a Blues Juniour sometime in 2005. the spider is good but tubes are an upgrade. i think you can get a blues juniour for around 300.
and remember that tube watts are much much louder than solidstate watts. 15 tube watts is like 50 solidstate watts.

its always good to have a little headroom by the way. there wont always be a PA and 15 may not be loud enough.

yeah head room will give you less tube distortion. so to crank the amp you have way too much volume. I really think 15 is the way to go for most gigs. anywhere that you would need a 100 watt marshall tube amp should also have a PA.
and you can always add a 4x10 or 2x12 cabinet and that will give you a ton more volume.

if you can get it up higher, then more wattage will sound amazing. my amp is a 2x12 (combo), and im extremely excited because my youth group just got a shure SM57 which i used wednesday night. i turned up my amp pretty loud, pointed it against a wall and had the mic pointed at it, and it sounded incredible.grock wrote:yeah head room will give you less tube distortion. so to crank the amp you have way too much volume. depending on your amp, you can do a lot to manipulate the tone. with mine, i keep the master volume at 10 and adjust each channels volume accordingly. it makes the sound much better.
the only thing i dont like is how the volume with the boost is much louder than the normal gain channel.
