What does (2) mean on a tab, or when its in parenthesis?

Usually that kinda stuff has to do with the fingering.

I think their official title would be ghost notes, and they don't physically have to be played all the time.

It's what finger is "recommended" to use to fret the note(s).

1 = index
2 = middle
3 = ring
4 = pinky
