Acoustic Bass Strings

Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

Acoustic Bass Strings

Unread post by GSR » Mon Jul 12, 2004 1:53 am

not upright/double bass, but acoustic bass. i have elixers on my ibanez AEB10 acoustic/electric bass... they came with it.. but they sound really rattly and clanky. its a low end bass, but hey i gotta have somethin to play round the fire/at the beach. daddys junky music has their AEB10's equipped with d'addarios, and they sound/feel a lot smoother. any other suggestions?

what kind of acoustic bass do you have? i am in love with them, but it is hard to find a quality and affordable one.

i'd stay away personally. they all sound like ass and are only good for sitting around a campfire and just screwing around with. the lowest string on an acoustic guitar is an E for the simple reason that that is the lowest the note can go and still resonate loud enough to compete with the rest of the strings. when you get into accoustic bass...your just killing volume.

thanx for the advice. the allure to them is the sound when playing with my buddies on acoustic guitar. but everytime i have played one, the volume is ass and almost every note does not sound clear or deep. for the price I would like to know if it is worth it or not. i still think acoustic bass has it's pros and cons.

i would not go for d'addarios just cause i have strung my acoustic with them twice and they have a tendancy to die really fast if played with any regularity. Dean Markley makes nice ones and so does DR. And another thing is that the volume can be comprimised. I play unplugged with guitarists all the time and ive found its all in the attack. If you increase your attack you will sound considerably louder.

if you want the REAL accoustic bass experience, go upright!
