D G C F A D -- 'Dropped Standard' / 'whole-step down' Paul McCartney, for Yesterday, Neil Young, for Tell Me Why and Sugar Mountain [correct?!], R.E.M.'s Peter Buck, Elliott Smith, many others. Old 97's bass player Murry Hammond reports, "Just for the record, we tune everything down a full step. E's becomes D's, A becomes G, D becomes C, etc. Heck, If we had a 'K' we'd probably drop it down to a 'J.' This tuning down mess is mine and Rhett's [vocalist Rhett Miller] fault. Before 97's started rehearsing, Rhett and I were kicking around a lot of old Sleepy Hero songs and found that some of the notes were too high to hit comfortably, so we tuned everything down a whole note. It's been like that ever since." The esteemed but sinister Dimebag Darrell of Pantera tunes his Washburn Stealth "Dimebag" model down 1-1/4 steps. - Guitar World magazine, April 2001.

- Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

if you drop the now D string down to a C, its called Drop C tuning. metallica uses it on St. Anger, one of my favorite bands skillet uses it, thrice uses it...
Sort Of A Protest Song wrote:I don't know if this is shameful or not, but after waking up in a girls bed that was really high up off the ground (almost top-bunkbed type high) I told her that if I fell off I'd "come back to life as a white wizard". I was still a bit tipsy. She did not laugh.
