Different version of Satellite?

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Different version of Satellite?

Unread post by lyrics101 » Thu Jun 17, 2004 2:15 am

Code: Select all

sun will shine no matter what i do
sun shines bright now with you
what a wonderful thing for you to do
moon shine bright
reflection in your eyes
a finer place he could not find

winter's cold this spring erases
and the calm away by the storm is chased
everything good needs replaced
hope all these changes happen with you

in my life never before
have i a lover so adored
her eyes her hair everything she says
my delight tickles me inside
touch my heart, touch my mind

no matter what's inside
i give to her
no need to satisfy my hunger's
lost in her
while i spend these hours
five senses reeling
with biggest steps i'm running
after her i will run
That's most of it. I've never heard it before, I was wondering when he did this.
Stay with me, safe and ignorant.

That version was what dave was playing with before he completed the song, like a demo. i think he played it at some college or something.

Its a cool version but i like the "music" better for the allbum version.
The lyrics are a fun switch up though, kind of like playing the off key intro

"After Her, the predecessor to Satellite, was never actually played live. The only known performance was the Rutabega Studios demo recorded in 1992." --- dmbalmanac.com
"They called it Aspen because "buttpencil" was already taken."

--my little brother(stoned 1st time :) )

"A commom mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is underestimating the ingenuity of complete fools." --Ford Prefect

"Don't forget to bring a towel." --Towlie

There's definately an excess of these  fuckers around here lately.
Just cause he didn't know After Her was a defunct Satellite, doesn't mean you have to get all elitest.
Lets all just be cool.

i don't think he was just rolling because he didn't know...my guess is that it's because this one can probably be found in a search because it's been asked a number of times

still no need for the eye roll, but it's a bit more understandable
B+P by offer only...thank you

Alternate version of Satelite

Unread post by BillyTripper41 » Thu Jun 17, 2004 5:37 pm

The alternate version you folks are all referring to is called "After her". With the lyrics, "Sun will shine..." etc. Try downloading it... it's only been done acoustically. It's outstanding, I cover it and people often ask if I wrote it, however tempting it is to say yes, I tell them no.

Actualy, here's the info

Dave Matthews
June 1, 1991
Rutabaga Studios, Arlington, VA

After Her
One Sweet World
Typical Situation
What Would You Say
Best of What's Around
Recently
The Song That Jane Likes

Also, most of the lyrics to the chorus were what was kept in the song (hence why it doesn't seem to fit with satellites). When I play it, I take the structure of Sattelite, and add the After Her lyrics.

After Her was written about Julia Grey

Sattelite was written for his mom (true, but never found out how it connects with his mom)
Yes, I am in a box

dude, sorry if i've listened to dmb for a while. in no way was i trying to make myself look better than anyone or belittle anyone. by the way, dmbalmanac is a website everybody is allowed to visit.
this thread is oh so weird cause i was just telling someone how its rude to make fun of people for their questions and lack of knowledge about dmb.
the one thing i don't want to be is and asshole around here.
so, i apologize for the

Wow, thinking for someone else is defin. more cool than being a music snob, or is it?

I thought this board was safe from the crap that clogs up nancies.org and other DMB friendly boards?
