artificial harmonics
yes i searched, yes i read the other posts, yes im still posting this
uhh, tips and stuff? i hold my pic with my index/thumb, i'm assuming it would be easiest to thumb it on a downstroke to get the hang of it. i was experimenting with switching it to my middle/thumb for the "pinch" or whatnot, but the roomates sleeping. anywho i want to give these a shot tomorrow, so anything can help. a little theory behind them for my brain wouldnt be bad either. thanks folks

I take every gif I watch (which is A LOT) with a humongous grain of salt. But I don't let that grain of salt get into my eye and blind me to whatever truth can be found in what I'm watching. He is not any worse than any other poster here, and the people who claim he is just don't know what they're talking about. The demonization has gotten ridiculously out of hand.

Another thing that might be able to get you started, is just strum a string open repeatedly, then slowly move the picking hand towards the bridge while you are still picking. eventually your thumb will start to graze the string as you pick and you can hear the tonal difference. An example of this is Zakk Wylde (who gets the best sound of any pinch harmonic I've ever heard in his solos) during "Stillborn" by Black Label Society. It might not be your type of music, but on the extremely easy riff during the verses, he just moves his picking hand back and forth toward the bridge, which gives him random pinch harmonics. Listen for it.
Also, if you are starting out, you realize that you have to pick the string pretty damn hard to get a loud sound. Of course, if you miss the pinch and pick the string with all of the intended force, it could sound like shit. You'll get the hang of it.

i've always had a hard time with this, works 50/50, but using one of the other corners of the pick like suggested (pointing the pick towards your palm) made it a lot easier now, feels good to get something down in 5 mins I have been trying for months.
keep trying man, took me a while to get it, you will get it too
