Well...its my first recording!
I decided that since i had nothing else to do, i wanted to record tripping billies. I've never done anything for you guys before, so here! I've been playing for about a year now, so yea, keep that in mind when you tell me hwo much i suck. lolol.
I don't usually sing while i play, so i fumbled a few times. this was a two take (the first one i dropped my pick), one track recording, guitar and vocals.
now! you can be harsh. tell me everything. i know i fucked up a few times with the vocals and guitar. and you'll catch them i'm sure. but scrutinize the shit out of it please! thanks guys.
here it is............

The guitar was very solid considering you've only been doing it for a year. To be brutally honest though the vocals were pretty rough. Don't get discouraged cause they will get better as you learn to sing and play. I would also suggest recording the guitar and vocals seperately as well as together. That way you can concentrate on just the singing and it will give you a better idea of how your voice really sound compared to how you hear it in your head. There have been plenty of times when I think I nailed a note only to find that it wasn't even close and vise versa. Great job and keep up the recording.

You were in key for the most part but you need to sing more. What I mean by that is you need to really project and be more confident. When you lack confidence it comes out as half singing half talking which is not what you want obviously. You were also nasal at times. The easy way to see if your singing through your nose is to sing something and then pinch it closed and if the sound changes a lot then you know that it's a problem. These are extremely common problems though and they can be overcome pretty easily if you work at it and are honest with yourself.
A lot of people think singing comes naturally but it doesnt. You always have to be aware of any problems that you have. Theres almost no way to concentrate on your vocal problems when your thinking about your hands the whole time. I think you'll be surprised at how much better your voice is if you record the two seperately.

actually..i've heard MUCH worse with vocals. i thought it was pretty good...not bad at all, just some timing issues and a couple of spots where you're a little off key. but that all comes with the package...when i first started singing/playing at the same time i had a really hard time with it. as you progress as a guitar player it all becomes MUCH easier. now it's not even a challenge for me. keep up the good work!

definitely some good advice...I really recommend singing acapella. once you get confident with your guitar playing, it's time to put it in it's case and start really practicing your singing. That's what I have been doing as of recent and I think I'm getting better?MWR wrote: A lot of people think singing comes naturally but it doesnt. as for the cover...guitar sounds damn near right on, and the voice...well hey, you're only a kid...you definitely have a lot to look forward to as far as vocal development. It was definitely not bad. I always think, listen to how Dave sounded in 91/92 compared to 5 years later or even now. The improvement is colossal.
