BIG AVATARS!!! HOW DO PEOPLE MAKE THEM SO DAMN BIG?!

Unread post by Davy28 » Tue Mar 30, 2004 11:23 pm

I have always wondered how guys like dreamingbassmunky, dmbfan63, whip, and tripping hilbilly get avatars that exceed 80x80 pixels onto their posts. This is like the third time I've asked and I've never gotten an answer. Please?
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

How could I not? Your avatar is so cool. Otherwise damn your ignorance! Just kidding.
What I do is I copy the photo to bmp, crop whatever I need to, then save it as a jpeg. I go to photostudio 2000 SE, set it to 80 pixels keeping the aspect ratio, and what you see is as big as I have ever gotten it. Thats a good pic of dave and emmylou, too. Dammitall!

I use ifranview(found it on google) to convert a jpeg to a bmp, open paint, resize it,save it, open ifranview open the bmp, save as a jpeg, cuts the file size down a lot

First off.....Big Avatars = No No

Anytime I've seen avatars that go over the size limit I usually delete them. So before I go and do that for you DMBFan63, I'll give you a change to chop off some of that blue sky on the left.

The reasons big avatars are bad is that they stretch out the table column where all your presoanl info is. By doing this you will essentially limit the amount of space there is for text or any normal post.

So basically do not get a big avatar. If you do, I will ask you to remove it. Anyway, there ya go

You are 100% correct...I had never really noticed that it was too big because it's not HUGE. But I am pretty stingy on the site looking the way it should, so even a little kinda gets to me. It's not terrible, and if you NEED it that big...keep it....but it could just as easily be shrunk. Lata

Hi kanter, I was mentioned in Davy28's post. Is my av too big or is it fine? I tried to size it down so it doesn't look too big and clunky, but if it's too big I'll do somethin'.

Edit: K, downsized it a bit. Hope it's alright now.

I didn't know the board would accept anything over 80x80 uploaded to it. Mine is just linked from an off site URL....hmmmm. Maybe I'll size mine down too....
