No, not really, but it's really just the intro. The song gets a little tricky later

Damien Rice - Hallelujah in C
Arr. Matt Germeyer

I've seen two videos of this tune, One in Bb one in C. Damien Rice uses a capo in both versions.
In both versions the capo is 3 frets down from the Root, so you can transpose it really easily.
If you want to play it in C capo fret 5, in Bb capo fret 3 etc Either way you're playing as if
you were playing in the key of G.

version in C
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJOwFZktHDo&feature=related

Version in Bb
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaHdeNN_ee0&feature=related

Original, in C, use this to learn the tune, the time is a lot easier to follow as its arpeggiated.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xR0DKOGco_o

Heres the bass part he uses in Bb, fill in the chords are you like. To save time I'll tab
the rest in C. Just take this bassline up 2 frets and you've got it for Cmajor.

Key of Bb
   Bb Gm
e--6---5-----3------5-------x2

      Eb F7
a-----6---5----3----6---8---
e--6----------------------6-

Key of C

Verse
I heard... Secret
C Am x2

F G
C G

goes... fourth, fifth (the lyrics are telling you the chords ;D )
C F G

minor fall major lift
Am F

		     Composing Hallelujah
G Em Am
Use the 3rd link in there to learn the tune, the time is really easy to follow and the chord changes are easier to hear on a piano. Beautiful tune.

Cam someone tab out "Winter Birds" from the new Ray Lamontagne cd. It sounds a little like he is using the picking and melody that Lennon used on Dear Prudence or at least that is what my ear tells me. I just can't pick it up for some reason. Any takers?

Code: Select all

Ray Lamontagne - Winter Bird
Arr. Matt Germeyer

Intro -
w/ C pedal in bass throughout

F Em F Em C

------------------------------------------------------------------------
-10--10-----10---8--8----8-----10--10----10---8---8-----8-----5--5----5-
------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----10--10------9----9--------10-----10------9------9--------5-----5---
------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Verse -
w/ C pedal in bass throughout
| C | F | Bb F | C |

Picking pattern -
He tends to strum the F and Bb but I wrote the pattern out as if he kept it consistent.
C F Bb F C
--0----------0-----------5---------5----------------------------------
--------1----------1-----------6---------6------3---------------------
-----0----------0-----------5---------5---------------------2---------
---------------------------------------------------3-----------3------
--------------------------------------------------------1---------3---
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Chorus - "The days grow short .."
w/ C pedal in bass throughout, very important here especially.

  Em7 Ebmaj7
Days grow short, as the night grows long...
--7---7h8---7------7--8--10-----10/11--10/11---------
--8---8----------------------------------------------
--7---7----------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------
--7--------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------

Towards the end the verses get simpler, just |C | F | C | and repeat.
The exception to this is the "Oh! my lady.." parts, which have the full verse.
Edit: Done.
The chorus sounds a little funky to me still, pedal the C prominently and focus on the melody.

Any one feel like taking a stab at the solo at the end of "Shadowlands" by Ryan Adams. I know the song is in Gb and the guitar is possibly tuned down half a step but I can't seem to pick up on some of the licks in there. Any help would be much appreciated. I really love this song.

Just wanted to thank you for that  In the tab, the verse/intro parts are kinda rough because it's hard to make out exactly what he's playing, but I think the other parts are pretty accurate.
His first album Heartbreaker is great.. it has a similar sound to the Cold Roses album but a different feel. I got into both those albums a few years ago.

Thanks for tabbing Rosebud.. I did a google search for a Rosebud tab and this was one of the top results (and the only one I saw that actually had the tab). I reference this site all the time for dmb tabs (but don't really post on the boards). Interestingly, your post was made exactly 10 years after my first dmb show (6/8/97).

Also wanted to point out for anyone who didn't know that Rosebud is about Jerry Garcia's guitar which is in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (Rosebud's shipwrecked up on the Ohio/Behind a wall of glass).

thanks again
