ORIGINAL SOLO IN STYLE OF TIM REYNOLDS FOR OSW

I break my solos down into segments.... there are licks I do if I need time to think about what I want to do next. I like to change modes a lot. I start with a basic pentatonic scale, decide on bends, slides, speed, arpeggios, play it up the scale between the pentatonic box from the lower octave and higher octave. Usually I put a jazz lick in, don't shy away from notes if I am not sure whether they will work or not. Trial and error will get you through that. I usually like to start a solo slow, do some bends, work up to the high end of the scale, make it fancy coming back down, play some speed chopping. Just whatever I'm feeling with the rhythm. If you are writing solos before hand the sky is the limit. You can do no wrong, and after several hours will usually have something, or an idea of what you want.

PS. In my brothers case our family medical history has caused him to have lung perforations that are aggrevated by ANY vocals, and have caused us to cancel our very first two shows, and our third to last performance. The DMB has nothing to do with it, according to the surgeon.

The whole smoking on stage thing is actually just a conditional state of learning. The cigarettes burn more than I smoke them. It's just a Clapton thing. I learned playing on a biker bar stage on off nights with my brother on drums. we'd both have a lesson, well, I never listened to my instructor, but then we'd come out on the stage and put on the house lights and the soundsystem and jam. There is no better way to learn than that in my opinion. That stage let me know where I wanted to be for the rest of my life more than a decade ago.
