Appsoldier wrote:Hey rin...quick question since you seem to be the go-to-person...PC :D anyway, i write my own stuff...sometimes it's sweet. but i can never tell if my girlfriend really likes it or if she's just saying it. if some dude wrote you a horrible piece of shit, but it was from his heart...would you tell him it was horrible, or would you smile and make him think he just wrote the next romantic ballad of the year?

and yes...i always try to have a guitar around...just in case :)
if a guy wrote me a horrible song but it was from the heart, i'd probably go on and on about how sweet he was but not say anything about his musical talent. hopefully he'd be blindsided by the praise and not think to ask what i thought of the song musically :)

quick question: is your girlfriend musical at all? does she play an instrument? if she doesn't, then no matter how bad your song may sound to you, she probably thinks its the best thing ever.

either way, i'm sure your girlfriend really appreciates your songwriting. even if the songs are horrible pieces of shit, which i highly doubt, it's an incredibly sweet thing to do. i'd take a POS writer over someone who could care less any day. also, don't sell your songs short-- i bet they're good. you should post some!
Yes, my girlfriend is musical. Which made for problems when i first started 2 years ago because i of course sucked, and she could tell. :D I don't mean to sell my stuff short, i just want to make sure im doing what im doing well...ill post eventually. but first i want to copyright it...there are a lot of people looking at these sites ya know. id much rather be safe than sorry. But that's in the near future, so keep looking. They'll be up and ill be spilling my heart to all you guys asking if they suck or not :D

Songs that fewer people know how to play are very effective.
Four words to start off: Here comes the sun.
Good as an opener, a closer, or an encore, it never fails to impress. Its less common then songs like blackbird or wish you were here because everybody knows how to play them.
The sound of silence is another oldie but goodie that gets the juices flowing, especially if you know all the words. (I always forget them. damn it all!)
I always play secret agent man just to get the steamy mood right.
Once the mood is set, its time for the meat. Nights in white satin rocks out, as does black by PJ.
Dave tunes depend on the circumstances. If the lady is a good friend, Say Goodbye as an opener might seem like a good choice but it is way too obvious. Crash is so much better. If its a girlfriend, Lover Lay Down and Let You Down are risky, but very useful if you can pull them off. If you're guitar skills are on the line, The Stone might be alright, but it is a little two angry for a love scene.
Jimi Thing-->WWBOM is perfect because it makes you look good and is happier. I always lover Two Step as a closer because it also looks hard, but I is the perfect blend of mystical dave and guitar savvy dave.

Good point, but forgot to mention I don't try to score with the guitar as my aphrodesiac in one night. I make it more of a culmination of every date so that by the time I've played many songs over several dates, the girl tells her friends about it and I've developed a bit of a reputation (If her friends are hot, all te better). By then I know that she and they will be all over me.

I played Say Goodbye for my girlfriend of a year and a half.

Oops.

It was quickly followed by Walk Away.

That was when she called me an asshole.

Exactly. You and me and all our friends, such a happy human race...begin with the lips, fingertips ad kissing, turn me inside out....

Oh you poor, poor child. For future reference, Rapunzel is another one to use with caution. If you want to take the chance of rejection to up the sexiness factor, I'd recommend crush so much more than Say Goodbye because it is less direct. Certainly less so than Say goodbye.

Sing and dance I'll play for you tonight, the thrill of it all and then I look up at the sky...Let me climb up you to the top so can see the view from up there, tangled in yor hair...lying under this, spell you cast on me.

tears in heaven is a good one, anything that has quiet fingerpicking...... I mostly just use the guitar to get the girls into my room (hey, want to listen to me play some songs?) but by that point we both know exactly what is going to happen whether I play some bob marley, metallica, or clapton........... the guitar is merely a tool, not the whole toolbox = )
