Okay... so Timmy is better than Mayer. Should we stop discussing his songs because of it? I'm sorry, I guess I'm not catching your gist. I haven't seen anyone contest that Timmy is better than Mayer (I certainly don't). Many of Mayer's songs still kick ass, so we listen to, enjoy them, discuss them... is that bad?

no trippin...my bad if i came off in a bad way...believe me...I love talking about this stuff....but its funny to me how some die hard mayer fans can't admit that if mayer is better than dave, than timmy is most definitely better than mayer...then if you look at it that way, who would you rather listen to?? timmy or mayer....probably mayer........matthews or mayer...probably matthews....

so what makes a guitar player better than another...technicality or "a great time"?

I prefer a great time...in that perspective I think we can all agree that Dave's songs, period, are the greatest songs ever...right?

too each his own. and in terms of better guitarists, there is no way to quantify all that so it really all boils down to preference. fun subject though. dave gives me a head ache sometimes when i try to keep up. mayer pull off some crazy fills and has that cool finger pick. man, i saw this guy in a band called "last free exit" who played this riff over and over in this song. i laughed everytime he did it because my i knew my eyes had to be playing a trick on me. his hand and fingers moved so fast that id get nervous he couldnt keep up each time he started it. intense. good times. well, im off to bed. happy pickin.

i got nothing against mayer, hes good, but, just like the last few posts state, although he may be better than dave(i dont agree, but thats just my respect for daves music) he was greatly influenced by dave i think, in a lot of ways, dave writes way better shit also, how many songs of john mayer can you name that you like compared to dave? as for the tim-mayer thing, im not even gonna say anything---any person with half a brain knows why. I like mayer, hes the shit, but, come on, comparing him to Dave, thats an outrage
