What makes us so elite?

This is the place to talk about guitar playing not done by Dave! Topics about techniques, styles, theory, and other guitarists go here.

my goal is to be able to play using my penis
That would be sweet. Penis as the fretting "hand", or the picking "hand"?

I dont understand what sense this makes, if I can play good music on a cheap guitar I am an elite amazing guitarist. Its not like I wouldnt be able to play anything I know now on a shitty guitar. And you cant make it sound good if its just a shitty guitar, what are you talking about.
when the ods are against you will you sit and cry? if your fingers bleed will you still play, like george harrison did? if you break your hand before a concert will you just not play? guitar is all about determination. you cant sit and do nothing and expect to be the greatest guitarist of all time. u dont need a 3 grand guitar to be good, you need skills first...what was your first guitar? can you play everything you know on it? if you cant the it is the guitar that is good, not you. do you hear me now?

thats deep shit man.. i think what makes a song so great is the lyrics... Neil Young's songs, instrumentaly are not so complex.. but hes a master muscian never the less. i dunno, i think it really depends on what kind of style of music you play.. hmmm, i think i forgot the topic of this thread oh well.
Its like... getting two birds stoned at once. (Ricky-trailor park boys).

Thats just completely false. If anything a shitty guitar will teach you how NOT to play. It makes a habit of expending far to much energy. I'm not saying a begginer should buy a $3k guitar but a cheap one sure as hell isn't going to help them.
Ultimately the guitar is a means to an end and not a bearing of skill. If you sound good you sound good, period.
Secondly, I like to think of the guitar as being all about music and emotion with detirmination being a catalyst. You can know everything about technique and theory but it all means nothing if you can't make an emotional connection. I don't think Kurt Cobain was an incredibly determined guitar player but he knew enough to communicate what he was feeling.
Oh and if I broke my hand before a concert you damn right I wouldn't play. Theres a difference between detirmination and outright stupidity.

it wouldnt physically hurt you. it would hurt a lot, but you would recover. we are talking about more than skills, we are talking love of the instrument. if you learn on a heavy gague strings you get faster. it is like working out, yo have a ton or weight for a long time and then switch to something light. it is so much eeasier. that is how i did it, and some of the greatest guitarists of all time. jimi hendrix got his first guitar from a pawn shop.

Im sorry but this makes no sense whatsoever, I have a fucking guitar my uncle got for $50 and 2000 Marlboro miles and I can fucking jam out on it and that doesnt make me any better or worse than if I had a fucking shoe box and a stick with some strings or the $1200 Taylor Ill have in a week or two. And what is all this sit and cry and fingers bleeding, a beginner could play theyre first time till their fingers bled and theyd still be a shitty beginner. And who said you can sit and do nothing and become a great guitarist, certainly not anyone here but thats got nothing to do with what kinda guitar they have. Sorry but I dont "hear you know" cuz you dont make a bit of sense, I dont know if youre trying to be all deep for some reason but it comes out as complete nonsense. Matty, sorry if this takes me off your nice guy list but wtf is he rambling about? Anyone explain this?

Do you think he wouldnt of become anything had his parents been rich and he got a $1000+ guitar for his first one. I dont know where your coming from at all on this issue and I dont think anyone else does either.

I might suck at playing the guitar, however, I do know that trying to play the guitar with a broken hand has the potential to do alot more than physically hurt you. Depending on the fracture and the location you could do nerve damage, rupture blood vessels and cause further damage to your hand which might decrease your overall range of motion and dexterity. At that point the only guitar your gonna rock out on would be the air guitar.

it is determination...the other guitar site i am a member of, i went and asked them the hardest song i could possibly learn. they all said eruption by evh. they also tols me there was no way in hell that i could learn it. i did. i did it because they said i couldnt. i dont know about all of you, but when someone tells me i cant do something, that is the best way to get me to work my ass off trying to do it.

I agree with you. I think determination(pratice) is what brings musicians to the next level of their playing. I dont think Eruption is the hargest song to play/learn though, but its still a tough song-
