I agree in a lot of ways...especially on Boyd...the guy is just a joke...they should've gotten rid of him years ago. I know multiple people who can play circles around him...he is at times unbearable to listen to live...it's just horrid...so so so off key...
Although I respect your opinion of Boyd's musicianship, saying that the band should have gotten rid of him is going too far. Before we get too caught up on what makes a better musician and who can plan an instrument better, remember that DMB is a close-knit band formed as a group of friends who respect each others' abilities. It doesn't matter if there are better violinists out there, they probably haven't played at Miller's in front of Dave, Carter, and Leroi.
When producers worry more about the sound output than the family dynamics is when you get an album like Everyday. I'm in the camp where Everyday is my least favorite DMB album and my favorites are BTCS and BS where coincedentally there is "no" Boyd in the former and lots o Boyd in the latter. Yes, that violin may sound strange at times but to me that's still DMB and not some throwaway sound.
DMB would lose a lot of credibility to me if they replaced Boyd with any ol shmo virtuoso even if the new albums sound better than BTCS.
I understand that now, I mean back in the earlier days before they really did all this bitime stuff...although it's wishful thinking to a degree...now I totally understand that they can't just ditch him, but let's hope his solo album gets huge and causes him to want to leave dmb or that it emphasizes how much he sucks when he has to carry the shows with his squealing out of tune playing...

dmbfan, do you feel threatened by me or something?... I don't get it.
I'm just trying to have an intelligent discussion here. Whether or not you choose to believe me is your own perogative. It still doesn't change the fact that you haven't actually said anything or added to the discussion. Write something about music if you want to talk. I don't need to waste my time coming up with reasons as to why you're a homo.
and my name is hans. you can go ahead and insult me for that, too, if you want. it's not like it means anything to me. the "tico" part comes from the fact that I have lived most of my life in Costa Rica. The popular term for one who lives in Costa Rica is tico.
If you think the ability to play Dave Matthews is the pinnacle of musical virtuosity, let me suggest that you broaden your horizons.
I didn't write out the gist of my musical background to impress you or anyone. I could care less about your approval, which is why I could care less about your insults. I wrote what I did so as to give you a feel for where I'm coming from.
Again, you haven't said a single thing that is in any way relevant to the discussion of Everyday as compared to other music. Why don't you try that instead of the insulting. Your opinion of me is irrelevant. And how you're able to so quickly form that opinion is foolishness.
If I really do piss you off so much, just save your breath and ignore me. It's simple really.

haha, you'll have fun with anything they've done the last few years...check out the 8/10/02 dancing nancies...boyd's playing something...I don't know what in the hell that is, but it's something. At the 4/23/02 When the World Ends he wrecked the first verse of the song by being way out of tune...even the girl I was with who doesn't know much about music at all asked me what was wrong...shivers...Chumpnet wrote:ticohans,
Yeah, you didn't mention anything about dropping Boyd, my reply about that point was directed to gcom's reply to your post.
But I'll add that I've never really had that much of a problem with Boyd's playing but I haven't heard a lot of live stuff. I'm content with the albums and Boyd does a great job on those, imo. But after I get a new HD I'm gonna have to grab a bunch of SHNs from Ants marching to make up for missing out.
