I know its terrible. What's even worse is hearing Carson Daly compare them to N'Sync and breaking to go to a video of Limp Bizkit. What a terrible time that was to be a fan of the band.

i totally forgot they were on there, and that was the first i had seen of that footage...not good

Its stuff like this and that Charlie Rose interview from '01 that really make me despise Everyday. Because not only is it musically weak in terms of what they are capable of, but its what it represents to this band on a larger scale and how they changed during its release that really gets to me.

Charlie Rose: "Boyd what does Glen Ballard bring to the table differently from other producers?"

Boyd: "A hundred and fifty million records sold"

Charlie Rose: "Carter, are these really the best songs you have ever recorded?"

Carter: "I think so...we got charts with this one baby!"

Charlie Rose: "And how does that make you feel?"

Carter: "(pauses, searching for a BS answer)...like a professional"

They really looked like jackasses in that interview, not only with their trained answers, but how they were all coordinated in their matching black leather outfits. I really never thought I would see them sell-out like that.

I liked the 60 minutes program. the interview about the album and GB was bad. but all of the storylien they gave weas cool. Minus the ED stuff I thought it was a cool 15 minute introduction to the band.

What affect will the record company change have on DMB? I'm not sure if I understand all the logistics behind these sort of things. Will this affect the music at all, or just a better working eviroment for DMB and crew?

Well, I don't claim to know everything about record companies and such, but I do know that record companies (talking big-time deals) put a lot of (at least what I've come to know of record co.'s) pressure on the musicians to make a hit single/mainstream record, something catchy - the record company wants the album to sell. I think that being away from all that pressure and those bad vibes the record companies give out, that DMB would be able to pursue their muses and have their own musical direction, not some big-shot producer's/record company's. Again, that's just my two-cents.

edit: And thanks, Nitro, that was a good read. I like Dave's take on live fan recordings. And that definately has to suck when a million+ people are watching you perform and your voice is almost completely shot.

ya basically a big company wants to make money off of a group. and dmb being completely different then any other mainstream band. they don't neen publicity they have a large and loyal fanbase. he doesn't need to worry about people buying his albums, because again he has a large and loyal fanbase. He really doesn't need to worry about money, he has plenty of it, and wherever he tours, people will go. So going with like say an Indie lable they will still have all the same fanbase and will be able to sell fine. say if a band like simple plan wanted to do it they couldn't. they have to have that type of label to keep them out there.

Agreed completely, but they're going to need a GREAT release with their next album, not just good but great. Unfortunately their starting to lose some credit in the music industry, even with their loyal fan base. They need an incredible, award-winning album (yes, hate to say it, and it's shooting for the stars, but another BTCS) to get them some of the credit back they once had.

So if BS wasnt released their credibility may be even worse. They need to step it up but it does look like they have been having more of a classic dmb attitude lately so i have hope

Don't misunderestimate the Batson factor. He turned those '04 songs into, well, dust I guess. But he turned them into poo first.

Don't misunderestimate the Batson factor. He turned those '04 songs into, well, dust I guess. But he turned them into poo first.

I blame the band, not Batson for that. They hired him eventhough they were doing just fine on their own in the studio before the '04 summer tour. They had written 6 new songs during those sessions all by themselves and for whatever reason they were scrapped for Stand Up. They should have just self produced their own album with those '04 songs as the core and they would have been right back to where they were in 2000.
