I agree with what many people have been saying. I went to a drum festival a few weeks ago that starred Billy Cobham, Bernard Purdy (worlds most recorded drummer), tODD sUCHERMAN (sTYX NEW DRUMMER, he's amazing, opps...caps) and Denny Seiwell (started wings w/ maccartney and did TONS of other things like movie soundtracks and commercials.) and Dom Famularo, a world class teacher. These guys may be unheard of to some but are big big names in the drumming community and what I liked is that most of them mentioned that drumming (or music) has nothing to do with who's better than who. Its who can fit the music and show some emotion. It really got me off comparing drummers talent-wise.

There are many drummers 'better' than Carter but he is just my favorite b/c of he way he plays.

To people who arent drummers, they know Carter is awesome, but the more knowledge you get about drums, the more you realize how amazing he is. This is how I began in the drumming world, from there branching of to see how these before named drummers are unbelieveable. To some the greatest drummers may be hard to sit through but with a little knowledge of the drums they can be appreciated more.

Most people never even heard of the great drummers, b/c like someone said; they aren't even in full time bands. Music with great drumming showcases arent excately radio music at all times (i.e. Rush). On the other there are some diamonds in the rough that play what sounds like simple drumming but is greatly difficult on a closer listen. Shuffle beats on songs like Rosanna (Toto, Jeff Pacaro) and Fool in the Rain (zepplin, bonham) are really hard to grasp though they sound easy. Our Lady Peace's drummer Jeremy Taggert was a big influence on me growing on aswell.
