I've concluded that they will never reach the point of BTCS or LWS. I think a lot has to do with the lack of Lillywhite and Dave allowing for more input from the other band members. Their first 3 albums (UTTAD, Crash and BTCS) are as solid as any 3 albums you can find from one band.

The main thing that bugs me is they introduce these great songs on tour and then leave them on the shelf for an album. I know we get them on Live Trax sometimes, but the songs from 2004 and 2006 are really, really good. Good, Good Time, Crazy Easy, Joyride and Sugar Will proves they can still make great music. I just don't understand how they completely disregard these songs in the studio.

I'm going to have to assume that part of the blame lay in whatever producer it is at the time. I think the producer convinces them that its better that they start from scratch to give the fans something new.

While I'm all for something new, if this is in fact the case its just stupid. What made the first albums such a big success is that the songs were road-tested and clearly loved by the fans. I like to assume that DMB pays attention to its fan base, but the last few years makes it harder and harder to lie to myself. For the most part, we're all in agreement the '04 and '06 songs were decent, at least better than what we've heard since their last two goes in the studio.

I'm starting to wonder if DMB really gives a damn what the fans think anymore.

Seriously. Look at this list of quality songs that have been tossed aside for such gems as Dreamgirl, Hunger, Smooth Rider and Seven

Sugar Will
Good Good Time
Joyride
Crazy-Easy
Idea of You
Sister
Kill the King
Break Free
Shotgun
Butterfly

An entire album of material better than anything they've done in the studio in 7 years. Someone is doing this band a major disservice. Shane, I think it's safe to say they don't give a damn.

That would be a pretty solid album right there.

It pains me to have to agree with you.

Though I will say that if they did put out an album with the line-up, I'd get very excited.

I'm actually really starting to dig that Shake Me Like A Monkey clip. Just sounds like a fun song.

I'd be pretty pissed if I bought the iTunes pass thing, we've already seen about 95% of these behind the scenes movies that they have put out.

for the producer to say the last few albums didnt capture their writeing skill and musicianship is pretty ballzy - ......... or is it sycophantic to wineing fans like us -
Gervais on Rosa Parks "she was arrested but then that law was changed- but she didnt stop there, she started sitting in the seats saved for disabled people. unbelavable, she talked to the driver when the bus was in motion- did she have the correct change ready? - did she bollox!"

The engineer himself dropped a Led Zeppelin reference. Album has no shot of being good. Somebody kill Tim Reynolds by the way.

On second thought, I guess I'll let him live. Just break that fucking electric guitar.
