Capo Question
i kno i sound like a dick but im still ver confused. the pressure is even on both the top and bottom of the capo and neck, so its just like a clamp, and i cant possibly see how it could hurt it. the only pressure the capo is putting on the neck is downwards, and its not going to leave a dent, there is no pull to either side so its not gonna warp it or mess up the finish...Andre_GT7 wrote:Not for a long time, it will definetly cause unneded stress on the wood if you just leave a capo (which since it's a Spring, is constantly pushing on the neck) for a week.
and even thought we've gotten off topic-ish, a shubb would do all the same stuff that we're talking about here

I hear good things about planet waves new capo, and its not too expensive. Here is a link to it:

But, I dont think you have to worry about the keyser hurting your guitar in normal use either.

But I am sure you have seen how the Capo can hurt the finish on the head stock..I agree..I don't think it will hurt the neck.praisedave wrote:i kno i sound like a dick but im still ver confused. the pressure is even on both the top and bottom of the capo and neck, so its just like a clamp, and i cant possibly see how it could hurt it. the only pressure the capo is putting on the neck is downwards, and its not going to leave a dent, there is no pull to either side so its not gonna warp it or mess up the finish...Andre_GT7 wrote:Not for a long time, it will definetly cause unneded stress on the wood if you just leave a capo (which since it's a Spring, is constantly pushing on the neck) for a week.

You don't think a constant pressure of strings on the neck is going to leave the neck hurt?Lbacker wrote:But I am sure you have seen how the Capo can hurt the finish on the head stock..I agree..I don't think it will hurt the neck.praisedave wrote:i kno i sound like a dick but im still ver confused. the pressure is even on both the top and bottom of the capo and neck, so its just like a clamp, and i cant possibly see how it could hurt it. the only pressure the capo is putting on the neck is downwards, and its not going to leave a dent, there is no pull to either side so its not gonna warp it or mess up the finish...Andre_GT7 wrote:Not for a long time, it will definetly cause unneded stress on the wood if you just leave a capo (which since it's a Spring, is constantly pushing on the neck) for a week.

Regardless of finish problems and what not if you leave it on there too long it WILL fuck up your guitar's frets. The strings are clamped against the frets very tight for a long period and you are going to wear down your frets. Just don't be a dumbass and leave the fucking capo on there for like a month or something. Exercise some common sense and take it off when you're done and you will be fine. If you think about it, if you leave your hand on the top of your guitar for a long time the oils in your skin are going to fuck up the finish, but that will take a LONG freaking time. Same thing applies here, use your head and don't be stupid, it's not hard to take a fucking capo off...Machtimus wrote:You don't think a constant pressure of strings on the neck is going to leave the neck hurt?Lbacker wrote:But I am sure you have seen how the Capo can hurt the finish on the head stock..I agree..I don't think it will hurt the neck.praisedave wrote:i kno i sound like a dick but im still ver confused. the pressure is even on both the top and bottom of the capo and neck, so its just like a clamp, and i cant possibly see how it could hurt it. the only pressure the capo is putting on the neck is downwards, and its not going to leave a dent, there is no pull to either side so its not gonna warp it or mess up the finish...Andre_GT7 wrote:Not for a long time, it will definetly cause unneded stress on the wood if you just leave a capo (which since it's a Spring, is constantly pushing on the neck) for a week.

no too be perfectly honest i dont think so. not even a little. almost all fretboards are made of rosewood which is one of the hardest widely available woods in the world. your fingers put pressure on it everytime you play and even on guitars 40yrs old fretboard wear is rare. you can go through 20 sets of frets before seeing any wear on the neckMachtimus wrote:You don't think a constant pressure of strings on the neck is going to leave the neck hurt?Lbacker wrote:But I am sure you have seen how the Capo can hurt the finish on the head stock..I agree..I don't think it will hurt the neck.praisedave wrote:i kno i sound like a dick but im still ver confused. the pressure is even on both the top and bottom of the capo and neck, so its just like a clamp, and i cant possibly see how it could hurt it. the only pressure the capo is putting on the neck is downwards, and its not going to leave a dent, there is no pull to either side so its not gonna warp it or mess up the finish...Andre_GT7 wrote:Not for a long time, it will definetly cause unneded stress on the wood if you just leave a capo (which since it's a Spring, is constantly pushing on the neck) for a week.

no no, i said from the beginning it could mess up the frets and i still maintain that it wont mess up the neck... whatever tho, this is a really gay thing to argue about.Machtimus wrote:
