i watched the clip (damn i really want the Benaroya DVD) and it doesnt look like Dave is strumming hard. yeah there's much muting and stuff, but it's all about the fretting hand, like all Dave's songs (and u should know that ;) )

about FTT, well actually alternate picking (or alternate strumming) is less stressing than all upstrokes (or downstrokes) b/c w/ a full hand movement u pick 2 notes (DOWN = 1 note, UP = another note)...w/ onyl downstrks u have to double the hand movements up.
i usually have no problems w/ downstrokes at all, but FTT has a freaking fast time
NO, it's not all his fret hand. His strumming hand is moving constantly throughout the verse, and he chops down hard 3 times . I believe this chopping/muting is what is killing me.
he doesnt mute w/ the strumming hand while he's chopping

question: do u play unplugged?
How about this? Since my fingers are lightly/semi-lightly touching the strings with his fret hand, it doesn't allow my pick to follow through with the strum. Which puts a strain on my wrist in this particular song.

I don't find the fret muting to be difficult at all. It's actually one of the easier things I find when playing Dave songs.
sry, but i didnt get what u said

yes but in that clip muting is all about the fretting hand and not the strumming one

You clearly aren't understanding. When strings are muted with the fret hand, the stumming hand does not hit the strings the way you normally would. That puts a strain on my wrist. Yes, Dave IS muting [lightly touching, it seems you couldn't understand that for some reason] but the effect it puts on the strings hurts my wrist when I strum them. :x

ok
i think the only way to get the right wrist hurt is that u are strumming too hard
i keep telling u that Dave doesnt usually mute w/ the right hand but w/ his left.

i can play this song pretty easily. jelly i think your muting with fretting hand is messed up cuz i cant notice any difference in how the pick hits the strings when you mute....the only thing i can think of is that your angle into the strings is too flat, meaning you catch too much of the low E string, which you dont use in this song....im trying to figure out how else it could be hurtin your wrists

I want to hear you guys who claim it is easy to play this acoustic for the entire song and then post it.

I wil then concede :)
