Dave is incredibly inefficient. That's what he does best if that makes sense.

Actually not. He normally does things a way that may be a bit harder but always works out better in the long run. Such as grey street, his way takes a while to figure out but you dont have to move around as much when you get it. Or when the world ends i think he uses his pinky which makes it easier to switch when he does the chord on the twelve. And in Granny when he does the chorus grey street style, same difference. There might be easier ways but daves ways are definately most of the time more efficient.gcom007 wrote:Dave is incredibly inefficient. That's what he does best if that makes sense.

that's really not true at all, no offense, but Dave writes, or atleast he used to in the mindset of not using a lot of open strings which causes him to have to play a bunch of weird chords...some of the stretches he does are just absurd...any trained guitarist will tell you there's really no need for them at all. Dave has gotten better about this through the years though and has kinda just let the music happen instead of crazy guitar chords. It works for Dave though and you really shouldn't take it as an insult. BTW, how can you say there are easier ways but Dave's are more efficient? Isn't that contradictory?guitardmb wrote:Actually not. He normally does things a way that may be a bit harder but always works out better in the long run. that's really not true in most cases...guitardmb wrote:Just because daves ways may be more difficult they make for easier chord changes and less overall movement. So by the bold definition of efficient dave is being efficient.

Yes it is. Looke at When the World Ends or the chorus to Grey Street, Two Step. Its obvious his way of doing it makes it easier to do things later in the song.gcom007 wrote:that's really not true in most cases...guitardmb wrote:Just because daves ways may be more difficult they make for easier chord changes and less overall movement. And how arrogant of you to say a way that an artist does something is wrong or redundant. He is obviously a better musician than you if he has a record deal and you dont.

I very much consider myself a better guitarist than Dave Matthews. No exaggeration whatsoever.guitardmb wrote:Yes it is. Looke at When the World Ends or the chorus to Grey Street, Two Step. I think its kind of very arrogant and stupid to come to a Dave board and talk about how stupid Daves way of playing is, whether you are better than him or not.
And when I say musician, that means more than just guitar playing. It has to do with lyrics and the manner of playing. People must obviously like his way better than yours.

or they just haven't heard my way yet...ha...and no, I don't consider it arrogant...I didn't say he's bad, but he does a lot of stupid, unnecessary crap too...I wouldn't be here if I didn't have some semblance of respect for him but that doesn't mean I'm not going to critique the stuff I don't like...guitardmb wrote:I agree Dave isnt the best guitarist is the world, but he isnt bad either.gcom007 wrote:I very much consider myself a better guitarist than Dave Matthews.
