This pisses me off!!
So I am taking 2 guitar courses at the Old Town School of Folk music in downtown Chicago. Its a very nice school with tons of history and great teachers. So i was tuning up before class and the other members of the class walked in and began to set up in a circle. Everyone in my Guitar Level 3 class is older, like 35+ and im the youngest being 20. So this guy next to me whips out his guitar and its a beautiful Taylor. I said "Wow thats gorgeous, what model is that?" "Yah he exclaims, I just got it, I have no idea what model it is, but its allright". He seriously said allright. I was blown away that he didn't know what model he had (814). What gives?? But then like the next person to walk in is this chick whos like 50 something. She whips out a 000 style MArtin with a sunburst. I said my thats a wonderful guitar. She was like all unaware of what it was, "Yah i bought it used, it works well" She had no idea what it was and I had to check the soundhole to se it was stamped 000-28EC. I was blown away when I read that. How do these people not know what kind of guitar they have??!? Anyone ever run into people when their playing and you ask them about their guitar and they have no clue what model or woods are in it. Pisses me off, I own a Washburn D8 ($219.99) and I know EVERYTHING about it. Pitiful I know, but know your gear people. My 2 cents.

Eh, that's what you get for being older and having a nice job. (Or a husband with a nice job.) A guy I play with a lot is a dentist and he's 50, and he has-not lying- 6 Taylors, (2 custom made), 2 banjos (both custom made) , and a really nice MK mandolin. He's a jaw-dropping player though, and he know all of his instruments back and front.

So what you're saying is that your post has nothing to do with this topic, huh?brian_ok wrote:Eh, that's what you get for being older and having a nice job. (Or a husband with a nice job.) It's opposite day silly... I have found that a lot of older people tend to not talk about their guitars a lot around a younger person like you or me (im the same age..). They figure you don't know jack shit about guitars and don't really feel like teaching you something. A lot of times if you see their guitar and start talking about it and make some comments that hint on the fact that you know your stuff, they open up more. Then again, a lot of people just don't know some name brands. Many older people have gotten hooked on a name brand like Martin or Collings or something smaller and buy a taylor that sounds good and just dosn't know much about it. I've also met a lot of people that don't really care and don't want to care, they just know it sounds good so they got it, it's all about the music... Don't worry about it, maybe they will change a bit as you get to know them, maybe not...bbatsell wrote:seriously, holy shitKahn wrote:slimerdmb24 wrote:So what you're saying is that your post has nothing to do with this topic, huh?brian_ok wrote:Eh, that's what you get for being older and having a nice job.
