I just think of it as fun music. Blasting some Enima of the State going 70 on the highway is fun. Sure all the songs kinda sound the same, but hey....you like one and you like them all.
True, it is simple music. Good to by simple sometimes. Plus its fun to sing about day to day shit rather then that political nonesense that floods the radio now days. I liked the days when sluts and parties were what mattered.

Barker is a great drummer who has some good licks/beats but really, his solo's and each song are really nothing to duplicate for intermediate drummers. Carter on the other hand, as such a flow and knowledge for the music that his songs cant be duplicated (even by himself) there's improv which shows his intensity and emotion and the drums have room to vary and not be constricted note for note.
all in all: Barker is underrated but is not close to being on the same stage as Carter
Whoa there big guy, dont hold him on too high of a stage. I love the guy just as much as you do Im sure, but hey....he isnt untouchable.
I didnt say he is untouchable, I just said that barker cant touch him. Theres many many other drummers that Travis Barker wouldnt mentioned in the same sentence with, Carter too. But as for these two drummers, i stand by what I said
Sorry, I just took those as general statements.
yeah i read what you bolded. i can see how i might have misunderstood. carter can be duplicated but not 100%, like many drummers. carter throws a lot more stuff that go unnoticed. whereas barker notes are in your face. but both work their own types of music very well
I agree, blink used to up there for my favorite bands back in high school. still listen to some of their stuff, good summer music

Ok cool... I don't listen to blink alot and I just never really thought of him as a very noted drummer. I also saw him playing with some country ppl. the other day at an awards show and it didnt look like anything really. Anyway, i guess hes a little better then I originally thought he was. I just know that the first thing that caught my ear when i heard DMB was the drummer, he seemed different to me. Then i started getting into them because of the guitar aspect, but it was carter that really hooked me at first off some live stuff, it was some concert playing on the TV in a music shop, that was the first and last time I ever asked myself "why the hell would someone need a drumset that big?".

travis is grreat in a genre that needs little ability. but people see him as something more.
because drumming in that genre is all the same, the second anyone is any good they hail him as some kind of genius.
carter is much better.
in the same way you hear a load of rock fans saying that the flea is the best bassest. WTF, victoor wootan , even stephan kicks his ass

i don't know about that...
but Travis just may be the best drummer on the radio right now (seeing as how they never play DMB)
I would go so far as to call him one of the best drummers that rock has seen in a LONG time.
don't get me wrong though, i'm just a casual blink fan but i can see this guys talent.

werd.
they both play things the other couldn't play. If you ever listen to the Transplants first CD you will realize "Oh shit, Carter couldn't play that." and i'm sure if you sert travis behind a billiopn piece drum set and had to keep time for a FULL band, then travis wouldn't be able to play that.
like mikey said, both are awesome.

Speaking as a drummer...
Travis is a very good drummer, he plays for the song and usually sticks to his beat. Carter is an extremely good drummer but often goes a little crazy in the fill area, he could just keep the groove going but he hits like 1000 semi - demi quavers for some songs that require a little more subtlety. That said carter is slightly better than travis IMO, he is certainly technically better.
What needs to be said though is that as most drummers will tell you (the ones who know some stuff anyway), there are a few drummers who are in the league above carter (yes there is such a league!!!) Steve GAdd, jeff pocaro (RIP), Dave wekl, steve smith, THomas lang, and lastly the best drummer in the world right now, possibly ever... Vinnie Colaiuta.
The only reason these guys aren't recognised outside the drumming community is that they are sessioners or hired stickmen so are not attached to a famous band (at least not for a very long time)
Anyway Carter is a cut above all the other drummers who formed bands but there are a lot of sessioners out there who are quite a lot better

I'll check those guys out, thanks. I dont really know anything about drummers, I just know Carter really stood out to me and seemed unique. Do any of you know any good tracks with Vinnie Colaiuta that I could check out?
-edit- If anyone is interseted, I found a lot of good stuff on youtube.

Check out drummerworld.com it's got some fantastic videos of all those i mentioned, including a drum battle between vinnie, dave wekl and steve gadd which is pretty sweet. That website is a great one for drummers.
I forgot to mention dennis chambers as one of the drummers in the top league.
You're right though carter is unique and has very tasty chops.

yeah. but it isnt terribly simple (white stripes). And if you listen to Blink with their old drummer scott and then listen with travis you will hear a huge difference. It is amazing how much a difference a good drummer with killer fills can make, he definitely became crazy glue to make them a solid band.
and liek i said, listen to the S/T album by the Transplants. some of the stuff he plays is insane, and it was all music created ona a computer and when Tim Armstrong was looking to record the music he said there was only one drummer he had ever seen that he though could pull it off. travis. dudes got chops, no one can deny that.
he is definatley a very good drummer i don't think anyones doubting that

I think we should stop trying to find the "BEST" drummer. Its all relative to what music is played and rarely are people playing the SAME music.
IMO, Billy Cohbam is a better drummer then Vinnie but maybe because he just appeals to me more, as well as the bands he was in. When you think about it anyway, Dave and Vinnie both came out of Steve and Billy. The whole chops yet clean thing...they come out of those two (major anyway, lots of influences Im sure) but then you think that Steve and Billy came out of Tony Williams an Elvin Jones and those two came out of Roy Haynes, Art Blakey, and Max Roach and those guys came out of Papa Jo Jones.
So.....I dont know, I just find it hard now days to just say "They are the best because of this and this". I think this depends who appeals to you more, but you cant deny where they came from. And with Carter...that just might be one of the things that bothers me most about the people who just hold him so damn high.
