question about taylors

i was wondering what the difference is between different models in each series of taylor guitars (excluding whether its a cutaway and electric). like the difference between a 310 and a 314 is what? body type? also, is the 300 series worth looking into purchasing? guy at guitar center tried to sell me a 110e but i heard they're just crap, but after playing a couple taylors i'm intrigued and was wondering about the 300 series.

im pretty sure all the x14's are dread's.

the naming system is all based on body shape and wood used. check the specs for specifics

yea i noticed that in the pricing guide which is why i was wondering if that was the only difference... thanks, would yall recommend the 300 series?

x10 is a dread, x14 is a Grand Auditorium, x55 is a jumbo I believe

I hava a 110e, and aside from the pickup that came with it, it isnt that bad. But I would suggest saving a little more and getting the 310 if thats what you are in to.

X10's are good for strumming
X12's are good for fingerpicking
X14's are good for both.
XX5's are just Big.

I have a 314ce limited Koa...

It is a great guitar very well built and it sounds really good. I have to say that wish I would have upgraded to the 414ce limited w/ rosewood because I have found that I prefer rosewood's tone over the koa. But overall it is a great guitar.

x10- Dred
x12- Grand Concert
x14 Grand Auditorium
x15- Jumbo
x54- Grand Auditorium 12 String
x55- Jumbo 12 String

As for the different series, as of now they range from the 100-900 Series with a few exceptions, i'll get into those later. I'm not quite sure about the 100 and 200 series because they are fairly new, but they are Taylors attempt at breaking into the under $1000 market and have laminated backs and sides, so the regular Taylor line starts at the 300 series. As of now, with the exception of older and limited edition models, the series are as follows-

300- Entry level grade woods (But still high quality, not bad by any means...) with gloss finished sitka spruce tops and mahogany backs and sides (I think they use african mahogany).

400- Gloss finished sitka spruce top and ovangkol backs an sides.

500- engelmann or sitka spruce tops depending on the model with the exception of the 514 that has a Western Red Cedar top. These have mahogany back and sides but I think it's American mahogany.

600- All have sitka spruce tops and big leaf maple sides and backs. This series is unique because they are usually stained a lot of differnt colors.

700- All of this series has englemann spruce tops with the exception of the 714 with western red cedar and the 754 with sitka spruce top. All of them have east indian rosewood backs.

800- These have their premium grade sitka spruce tops and quartersawn east indian rosewood backs and sides.

900- engelmann or sitka spruce top with their highest grade east indian rosewood backs and sides.

That's taylors regular line of guitars. They also have a Presentation Series (PS) that have brazilian rosewood backs and sides and lots of bling and go for about $10k. They also have a Koa (K) and walnut (W) series, a nylon series of classical guitars (N) and their line of baby taylors that are small, travel guitars. They also have the signature Doyal Dykes and Leo Kottke series. They also just came out with the new T5 electric guitar and will be releasing a new body size called the GS that is suppost to be really cool with alot of bass, so if you are in the market for a taylor i would say hold off untill those come out and check one out, they sound preatty good.
