I am not always so fond of him either. Always feeling as if he was the least talented of the five, which doesn't mean he's not talented, it's just hard to be the best in that company. However, I really don't think his new album helped his image of a good musician IMO.

I think Boyd is more talented then you give him credit for... the violin is basically out of its element if you look at it.. Being put alot of the time in the spotlight and out there in songs.. the violin is used to being.. either solo and back up.. or just in the orchestra.. ALSO... Boyd IS classically trained, so it probably was a little bit hard to get out of that classical trained stuff and develop the style, thus the rut. You know so you have to give him credit for what he has done with the violin, and forget that yes soemtiems he is in a rut or yes he sometimes sounds bad, but lets see alot of you pick up a violin and play.. i gaurentee youll be the laughing stock of alot of people for a long time... its that hard to play. just a lil insight.

I am a Boyd fan. I think he is rocking, and he adds a great deal to the band. Some people rip on him for being out of tune all the time (which I didn't hear at the show I was at, 7/2/03, or on the CD I have of that show), But not once during the show did I see him get a "new" violin from his tech. Dave, on the other hand, switched guitars every few songs. Also, during LIOG, Dave's tech re-strung one of his guitars.

he is good. but it seems lately that he doesn't care or something as much. i was listening to a raliegh concert and he was horrible in pig. i mean he was just flat enough to sound like that guy that doesn't know he can't sing and he's always flat. i know you guys know who im talking about, there's one in every dorm.
in his prime he was awesome, and he still does some awesome stuff, but im definetly more of a studio boyd fan.

Agreed. LAtely he's been slacking. But still! he's a big beefy black guy who plays the violin and dresses.... interstingly. haha. I think its pretty damn dunny. especially when he's really into a song and his mouth opens up real wide but no sound comes out... hahaha

Well at my show last night, he was awesome. Completly in tune in every song, including Warehouse where is part is so valuable. Maybe I'm just lucky, but his parts in Everyday, Ants, Jimi Thing, and Billies, and all his parts in general were just amazing.

Ithink boyd is an integral part of DMB. they wouldn't be nearly as good without him. he's got more music training than all of us combined and he has definately earned his keep for the band. i just think everyone wants to have someone to hate in the band and boyd is getting picked on. next to dave he is the most recognized person in the band and we can't dislike dave so next in line...
at the concert i went to, in general he did a good job. it wasn't amazing or anything, but it was good. but on a few songs he was horrible. but yea, boyd is vital, he should definetly be there.DreaminBassMunky wrote:Well at my show last night, he was awesome. Not only is she better looking, but Sharon is also 50 million times the violinist that Boyd is.
