So I Just Went Back And Listened To Busted Stuff

Unread post by Nitro1515 » Wed May 25, 2005 11:09 pm

I posted this over at Ants, but I would love to hear all of your thoughts over here

First off let me begin by saying that The Lillywhite Sessions are incredible and Busted Stuff does not compare to what was in the works with Lillywhite. With that being said I think if we had never heard the LWS, people would have been praising this album because it is not as bad as some people make it out to be. I also think it is important to compare it with Stand Up since this was the last time the band was in the studio...
Harris's co-production is pretty solid, and I got to say between this and Some Devil he is a better producer than Batson. The band comes to life more in these tracks, the best examples being Raven and You Never Know. And not once does Carter have that "drum machine" sound like he does on Stand Up. I actually would have been quite happy if they went back and worked with him again for this past CD. Although he is no Lillywhite, at least we would he gotten something closer to the DMB sound that we all grew up with. And while the tracks don't captivate the raw emotion and tone that the LWS had because the band just wasn't in that "dark" place anymore, I still find myself going back to listen to this CD quite often, unlike Stand Up which I haven't gone back to listen to in awhile (the lyrics and melodies are too painful and repetitive at times that they actually make me cringe.) Not once on BS do I find myself stopping and thinking "WTF was that?" Anyway, those are just some of my thoughts, what do you all think?

Yeah, I agree also. Steve Harris would have been much better. Though I like the way Batson brought out some new things in the band and brought some of the tunes a jazzy feel, he brought WAY too much Backstreet/N'Sync-ness to the album too.

I agree totally. I don't think you can compare LWS with BS because one of the reasons the LWS sounds "raw" is because it wasn't finished, had they made it to production with Lillywhite part of that rawness would be gone. IMO, I think Everyday is a better collection of songs than Stand Up.

Yeah i know what your talking about that is a little strange, but its not as bad as whole verses of lyrics on Stand Up that just suck.

the only song I like on Stand Up is Hunger.......even that is just ok. I dont see one damn song I want to learn on guitar from this album. Dont get me wrong, I will listen to this cd every once and awhile, but its just not DMB the way I want them to be. But thats just it.....they can do what they want

Exactly.

I for one don't think the producer has that big of an influence on what the album sounds like. Think about it, you take one of the best bands in the world who know what the fuck they are doing, do you think they are going to let a "producer" tell them how to play better then they know how to play as a band?

I for one have loved every release that dmb has put out. They play beautiful music that can be appreciated in so many different ways.
I mean Lillywhite produced UTTAD but the band had been playing those songs since 92'. I'm sure the band makes thier music they way they want to, a producer is only there for brain-storming.

(Can't wait to see this one turn into a huge(gay) arguement)
