Everyday (#36)

Unread post by mrjones » Sun Apr 17, 2005 12:36 am

first i just want to say, that this live is one of my new favorite songs of DMB. i also figured that this thread would already be started but i searched and no luck.

how did this singin of 36 chorus as a lead into everyday start?

and is there a thread about special live versions of songs? ie dixie chicken for crash,
For us living any other ways was nuts. with all the goodie-goodies working shitty jobs for bum pay checks, took the subway work and worried about their bills were dead. they were suckers, they had no balls. if we wanted something we just took it, and if anybody complained twice they got hit so hard believe me they never complained again

Im waiting for Fimdude & ranting to answer this question. Then I can say they are full of shit.

That question is only one that Dave can answer. And Im pretty sure it never came up into an interview. But, when they encored with it at Va Beach last year it was amazing.

not exactly sure what you're asking...

everyday and #36 are one in the same. just everyday is popified. the fans knew about it, and starting singing it at concerts.

Yeah, I think he was referring to the segue. I thoughtthat it was pretty obvious of why he would do that. (Similiar chordings)

they just knew. when my sister heard the song for the first time...she thought it was some weird intro then the ACTUAL #36. she was very dissapointed when the lyrics came in.

so the crowd collectively just knew, and started chanting it one time. back in the day they used to do like 13 minute versions of everyday/#36. now we just get a reprise....

Do you have a copy of one of these. That would be sweet to hear.

The one on folsom field is pretty close, though. Same with the gorge, if you hate the lovely ladies.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

when D+F played the Allstate Arena in chicago, the fans were singing #36 so loudly that Dave had to just break it up and interrupt everyone to start the lyrics to Everyday. I think everyone was a little disappointed but it was still an amazing show. Three Little Birds made up for it.

Ok, here's what I know. First of all, on the album, the very beging of Dave strumming Everyday, he does this:

Code: Select all

e-----------------------------
B-----------------------------
G----9-----9-----9---7----9---
D----10----10----10--9----10--
A--8-------x---8----------x---
E--------8--------------8-----
When I first listened to the album, I caught that right away. Dave hasn't done that since the album, though. But it just rang through my ears, and I knew it was very close to #36. Then, also, when they started to play Everyday live, Boyd would start to go into his #36 part during tjhe opening of the song, so I bet fans caught onto that too. One thing about Everyday, it was the very first song wrote for those sessions. Dave was fooling around with strumming #36, and Glen said he liked it, and was thinking of the words Everyday.

So, of course this is all speculation on my part, but I just think just a good number of people in the crowd knew from those hints from #36, so they started singing. Then people next to them caught on and they did, and it grew like that.
Yes, I am in a box
