Need help deciding...
I'm trying to decide between a Martin HD-28V and a Taylor 714ce...
here's some links:
hd-28v

714ce
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=g ... _id/118438
They're very similar in price, and the hd-28v seems to me to have a slightly better sound, but does not have the electronics. Any of you have experience with these guitars you can share?

I wish I had this tough decision to make for myself.
I'm a Martin guy. You will not get an unbiased answer on this board for a Martin vs. Taylor question. But, having it said that I am a Martin guy, I have actually played both guitars, and prefer the HD28V.
Taylor got lower scores on Musiciansfriend, but the Taylor does have the electronics. The Martin has no electronics if that is important to you.

I own both and love them. No matter which you choose, its a good choice. That being said, depending on your current situation, one might prove better then the other. For instance, if you are in a band, then I would definitly go with the Taylor. The higher treble will help cut through the band and the Grand Autotorium body with have a bit more projection. However, if you are just considering playing solo coffee-shop type setting, then Martins are perfect. The Dread body gives more of a bass-feel and definitly mellows-things out. Of course, it doesnt have the electronics, but if you plug a Fishman in there, you are good to go. But it all really comes down to what you want.

Excellent point about the treble cutting through a band mix. The pickup system comes into play there as well. If you're in a band, the Taylor would probably work better. If you're playing solo, or just looking for a guitar to write/play on at home the Martin would be great.Beauford33 wrote:I own both and love them. No matter which you choose, its a good choice. My 714 came with high action. But I never changed it because it was not that big of a deal. My first guitar had really high action so my fingers natrually got the strength. So basically, the Martin came with lower action then the Taylor, but its not that big of a deal.ForksonKnives wrote:hey beauford does either of the two have superior action to the other?

now now, i have proven myself to be one of the better instrumentalists on this board.Beauford33 wrote:Except once they hear you play, they would realize that you are just giving them a bad name.praisedave wrote:martin personally, but its all opinion
