i went to a dmb show in nashville back in 2002, and jeff coffin, bela fleck, and futch were all guesting with them on a few tunes. during one song, carter and futch were both playing on the same drum set, side by side. they were doing a call and response, but carter had access to much more of the set than carter did. futch matched him and elaborated on carter's playing and he only had a fraction of the drums that carter had.
they are both badass, but i think futch has a slight edge over him in terms of ingenuity
