Three years as of this March. Leaps and bounds. I picked it up more for the beatles initially, Dave came along later.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

Ranting, I don't think I've ever heard anything from you. Have you posted any recordings?Ranting Thespian wrote:I did it for the love of music. I already played the clarient, and I loved to sing (even though I was a bad singer at the time). My parents brought me up with nothing but music. I heard Neil Young, Jimmy Buffet, the Beatles, Bob Dyaln, Fleetwood Mac, Steve Earl, Tony Bennet, Bob Dylan, Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, Elton John, CCR, Bruce Springstein, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, and more.
I just wanted to pick it up and play. But soon after, I realised this was going to be my profession, since I couldn't think about anything but playing guitar the whole day. It's been 5 years, day and day out of playing guitar whenever I can, just because I want to, and I still just can't see myself not writing music, not up onstage performing, not in a studio recording. I just want to be a musician, and nothing else.

i fiddled around in 5th grade...(5 years ago), learned come as you are and lithium from my brother, then i got bored and dropped it. then in 8th grade my best friend told me i should play guitar...and of course my brother's electric just HAPPENED to be in the other room. so i picked it up...learned crash, and shit...its been 2 years and i can't believe that i stopped for so long.
so i guess you can say because of a girl, but not really. its just really fun.

Re: WHEN & WHY
c_tietze wrote:None of the reasons in the poll I can tell you that. LOL!jellyfish wrote:...did you start playing guitar.
I started playing about 12 years ago seriously but fiddled around back in 1990 with buddy's guitar.
I started playing because I have always wanted to play an instrument. I played piano/keyboard prior to picking up a guitar but wasn't exactly fullfilled with it. Then DMb hit the scene in 94 and I was aching to make those riffs Dave was producing. From then on it's been history.....
Now, IM just a causal player with no real interest to get better. Of course we all want to get better but I mean I dont want to sit around for 8 hours a day or even 3 and practice. If a need to learn a song for an upcoming gig then I will practice but otherwise I just play to fill my ADD void.
I play because I love music and even banging out a couple of chords to a fave song is bliss to me.

Yes, the poll is limited. It's not a scientific study but rather these seem to be the most obvious choices of the folks around here. If they didn't start playing guitar because of one of those reasons they can do exactly what C-Tietze did. He wrote why he started playing rather than complaining because their "reason" wasn't on the poll. (As if this will be submitted to Zogby!) Anyway, thats my rant for the day. Play on.fatjack wrote:that polls a little limited on choices...

Ha Ha.. You would be the last person I would suspect to learn guitar becasue of Dave. Plus, why you bitching about the poll. Your choice was on there.

Nice show. I saw that tour at the Vet. One of the best times ever. I was lucky enoguht to have 40th row. Not bad considering there were 50,000 people there!tjmac66pc wrote:May 29th, 1999...Foxboro Stadium, MA
