I'm not doubting that they do. I just think that if the band has the talent, they can do just fine, if not better without a metronome. Plus, playing a concert with a metronome would take away the "trueness" of the concert I think.elijah77jc wrote:actually a lot of professional bands do use metronomes in their IEMs.dmbguitar718 wrote:Those would never be loud enough.filmdude100cms wrote:not those i mean the kind that come with your ipod.praisedave wrote:those monitoring systems brock posted have budsfilmdude100cms wrote:in that situation ear buds would fall out or not supply enough sound for you to hear.
And yeah, I was talking about the metronome. That'd distract that band members I'd think anyway.

well the band that i know that does it really uses it for the songs where the guitar player comes in way before the drums do.i like tictacs wrote:ive never heard of someone performing live with a metronome or click track in their ear. that's the drummers job, and if you are in a band where the drummer is so bad you need a click track, im sorry but you should quit.

IEM doesn't stand for In-Ear Metronome, it stands for In-Ear Monitor. An IEM is precisely what you're asking for. (The metronome thing was just sort of thrown in and isn't related to IEMs.) An IEM sends a mixed signal from the soundboard (you can configure the mix however you would like) straight to your IEM, which helps block out background noise while letting you hear whatever mix helps you play better.Xiablo wrote:personally I wont touch IEMs because a lot of the jamming is too unpredictible. Im fine when it comes to time, just not fine when it comes to trying to hear my bass with my ears plugged.

well i dont think id like IEM's mainly cause i like to listen to all the guys im jammin with and play off all of them in some way or another, and fallow wherever they lead and take it another way. so just listening to one person might not work well.bbatsell wrote:IEM doesn't stand for In-Ear Metronome, it stands for In-Ear Monitor. Wel,. I'd agree with you if it was a smaller gig. Larger gigs you don't really have a choice unless you really wanna damage your ears. All your average plug tends to do is make you lose your sense of tone....just imagine taking ice tea and adding a crap load of water, it doesn't taste or look like ice tea anymore.filmdude100cms wrote:well i dont think id like IEM's mainly cause i like to listen to all the guys im jammin with and play off all of them in some way or another, and fallow wherever they lead and take it another way. so just listening to one person might not work well.bbatsell wrote:IEM doesn't stand for In-Ear Metronome, it stands for In-Ear Monitor. And its not like you cant hear the rest of the guys, because you just mix it a certain way. Basically what the crowd would hear, but with your bass more towards the front so you can distinguish the tone. So its not like your not going to hear your bandmates.
Victor Wooten IS a God, case closed.

The time's I have used in ear's the mix in them sounds like if you were listening to the song on CD, with you a little bit louder than everyone else. But you are only louder in your IEM, not to everyone. Everyone else is the loudest person in their personal mix. If that makes sense...
My big problem with IEMs are that good ones are so damn expensive. My own gigs are still small enough that I just use a floor monitor.

yep, it does the same thing that a floor monitor does, except its like a headphone version of it, sort of.. but these are way more expensivefilmdude100cms wrote:ok well will it like be mixed like how the crowd hears it or what?bbatsell wrote:filmdude100cms wrote:well i dont think id like IEM's mainly cause i like to listen to all the guys im jammin with and play off all of them in some way or another, and fallow wherever they lead and take it another way. so just listening to one person might not work well.bbatsell wrote:IEM doesn't stand for In-Ear Metronome, it stands for In-Ear Monitor.
